I am trying to set up a small "lab" at home. Like many modern homes, I have a regular DSL service which comes with a 2Wire 3600HGV router, which acts also as a DHCP server.
Hi. My computer running ubuntu server cannot find my network's dhcp server at 192.168.1.1. At startup it will say Waiting for network configuration... and then it will do Waiting 60 more seconds for network configuration and then the system will simply boot with network.
Hello, I am VERY new here so I hope I don't get slammed to much..
Goal: build a Ubuntu Server that will have DHCP enabled off our main network. Install FOG on it and run an imaging station seperate from any network/internet.
I am try to set up a home network running server 2003 E and a work station running windows 8.
my problem is I can't get the system set up with a static IP.
My first post here.
Relevant info:
Host OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits with VMware Workstation 8
Two VMs: Ubuntu Server 12.04 and Ubuntu Desktop 12.04
VMware NAT settings:
Use local DHCP service is DISABLED
Subnet IP: 192.168.2.0
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP: 192.168.2.2
On Ubuntu Server I have a DHCP server: isc-dhcp-server
DHCP is working OK.
I follow instalation from here wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/MAAS and
I decide to do something like this:
[Attached file]
And on MaaS server i install dnsmasq and make it DHCP server.
I leave this blank. And in etc/network/interface I have this:
Code:
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them.
OS1: Ubuntu Server 12.04 (server)
OS2: Windows 7 (network computer)
I'm having a weird problem, and I'm not sure what to do about it. When I reboot the server, then try to SSH into it from another machine on the same network, I get a "connection refused" error.

Dnsmasq is a lightweight server designed to provide DNS (and optionally DHCP and TFTP) services to a small-scale network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the global DNS.
The network was fine yesterday and as far as I know nothing has been changed or added. This morning some computers are connected to our domain but most of them are reporting limited connectivity. On checking our DHCP server we are getting this message.
Cannot find the DHCP Server:
The DHCP server you specified cannot be located.
