i am new to Ubuntu. And i have been trying to install a new version of the nvidia drivers.
When i do so, the resolution changes to 800*600 and i am unable to change it back.
I want to get a new laptop with a decent graphics card. I don't care that nVidia's drivers are closed source as long as they're good. I've heard that ATI drivers are buggier and I was wondering which card would be best. I have options like GT 240M, GT 320M, Radeon HD 4670. In theory I think 4670 is fastest, but if it is going to cause computer bugs it's not what I want. So my question is...
I have an acer Travelmate 5520 with this graphics card in it. My problem is that i cant get it to function properly. I have installed the latest ati drivers for linux from ati's website but everything connected to the graphics seems to lag a whole lot. Compiz fusion and desktop graphics is very slow and laggy. I also tried to play some windows games through wine but they also lag a whole lot.
I just installed a HIS AMD Radeon HD 6670 graphics card. I'm currently using Ubuntu 12.04 but am willing to upgrade if there's reason to. I'm not a gamer, but I do like to play an occasional game and I was not happy with the graphics performance of many games under WINE.
Is it possible to run 2 graphics drivers at the same time on Ubuntu? I want to add an extra monitor to my system and was wondering if I could use the onboard graphics to do so. So, I would run two of my monitors using the Nvidia drivers that come with my graphics card and 1 monitor with the ATX drivers for my board.
I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and absolutely love it , but when i go to system details
it says graphics unknown, is this a problem ? i have a acer aspire 5750, and a Intel 3000 HD graphics card.There also no additional drivers to be installed, but on another computer i needed to install additional drivers and it showed the grapics card.
This is my first time using Ubuntu 12.04 and needless to say, I am quite lost. My laptop uses Optimus in windows, but In ubuntu I am assuming it opts for my GT 540m. My questions is how do I install proprietary drivers and is it necessary for them. Everything seems to be working, but in the system details it says "unkown" for my graphics.
So, the advanced graphics on my install do not work correctly with my ATI Radeon graphics card because whenever I enable the restricted drivers, the whole operating system stops working. I have accepted this.
However, when I boot to an Ubuntu Live CD, the full graphics work fine.
Hey guys;
I have an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card in my computer. I want to install its driver in Ubuntu because I want to run Steam and play Team Fortress 2 while using Ubuntu without having to reboot my entire machine into Windows to do it. (I have 2 harddrives)
However, trying to install the drivers onto my Ubuntu system has been the worst yet from my history of using Ubuntu.
