http://ubuntuforums.org – I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit Desktop Edition in a dual-boot configuration on a two-day-old HP Pavillion DV6-6140us with Windows 7 preinstalled. Installing Ubuntu took a few hours and caused me a bit of frustration, so I figured I'd clean up my notes and share them. The DV6-6140us runs an AMD Llano APU, consisting of an AMD A8-3500M CPU and an AMD Radeon HD 6620G GPU. These chips, as of 09Dec2011, do not work with Ubuntu 11.10 without some tweaking, which I will describe below. Today I upgraded Ubuntu on this same machine from 11.10 32bit Desktop Edition, to 12.04.1 64bit Desktop Edition.

Hello, I want to replace my (slightly broken due to my carelessness) Ubuntu installation with Arch Linux. I already have a functioning dual-boot configuration, with GRUB installed, so I figured that I may not need to perform all the steps detailed on various tutorials for setting up an Arch+Win7 dual-boot configuration, such as partitioning and installing GRUB.

I currently have the latest version of Ubuntu (12.04 I think.) I just bought a new computer with the hopes of a awesome dual boot. Windows 7 was preinstalled with no discs and I wanted to have Ubuntu. When I finished installing Ubuntu, windows started to have problems and had to do self checks.

I have a lenovo thinkpad X230T that came with windows7 installed. Before wiping out the disk and doing a fresh linux installation I wanted to make a dual boot for a while.

The problem is that I don't have any windows CDs to repair the MBR after installing grub because windows was preinstalled.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Everything went well and I am able to boot in to windows after complete installation of Ubuntu.

symptom: i installed ubuntu on it and then tried booting into windows 8 but could not. i ran a boot-repair and that did not work either.

quick help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to dual boot on an external USB 500GB drive using my laptop.I have Windows 7 installed and booting on 1st partition 230GB now as active primary, 2nd partition is 100GB as primary, and 3rd partition is 135GB as primary. I was intending on installing Ubuntu onto the 2nd partition.

I have a current setup on my desktop PC using Windows 7 32bit

Currently, i have 2 partitions

C: for system files and programs installed

D: Here are all files such as videos, songs,ebook, etc

What I'm planning to do is to dual boot with Ubuntu 12.04

I'm new to Linux, so please bear with me. :)

I have some questions that really confuse me.
