Hi all,
I think my hard disk is going to die sooner or later
(it makes some clicking sounds every now and then
since several months ago).
On another note, I need to format.
i just bought windows 7 (i know, you all hate me) and im trying to install it from my laptop running ubuntu 9.04 linux. when i get to the install stage i get the message "windows setup cannot find a location to install temporary files". i believe this is because my hard drive partition is not in NTFS format, therefore windows cannot attach its files to it.
I am using xp and ubuntu 9.10 in dual boot mode.
Previously when i formatted my xp and reinstalled it the mbr was changed and this the grub did'nt loaded up. Well i am out of that problem but now i want to format the xp from my linux i.e i don't want any other os in this hard disk apart from linux (ubuntu 9.10) so is it possible to format the xp from linux.
will it affect the mbr ?
I've just finished installing the Ubuntu 12.10 desktop i386 using windows installer. On restarting the computer, i find nothing happens. There is no installation option anywhere in the boot menu. I'm not really very savy with computers, so pardon my jargon. How so i go about fixing this installation problem ? i use a HP Pavillion G series laptop with windows 7 home as the sole OS.
I want to install Ubuntu 11 on my Dell Mini 9. Using ubuntu.com, I created a USB drive. I was successful in running Ubuntu 11 from the USB drive. However, I could not install Ubuntu 11 from the USB drive. There was a screen that had a checklist of three items on it. One of them was having enough free space on my hard disk, which I do not. The hard disk is just too small.
I have been using Ubuntu 12.04 for some months, till I realised that I had some serious security issues, which involved, for example, being unable to install any new programs, seeing files unable to open even as root in my directories etc. So, I tried to format the machine and, although at first it was unable to see my hard drives, after a few tries it got successful.
I tried to boot install ubuntu using my laptop (without CD Drive) using a USB drive, then it goes to the boot selection menu (the one with the ubuntu logo installation options)
I enter install then my laptop just beeps 1 short beep, after that it stops then nothing installs, it just stays at the installation menu, can someone please help?
P.

I have a partition with windows 8, I installed it just to check it out and now I don't want it.
