My laptop has 2 GPUs, the Intel HD Graphics 4000, and NVIDIA GeForce FT 650M. How do I switch between GPUs? I tried installing drivers from NVIDIA, but that ruined my Ubuntu installation, and I had to reinstall. The Additional Drivers in Settings don't list any Nvidia drivers either.
I am using Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit and I my laptop has got Nvidia 525M switchable graphics card. My battery was not lasting longer and had a very high and constant fan speed.

1) Is it worthwhile to mess with Nvidia graphics drivers and graphic card switching, etc..., on a Linux laptop? Is the performance increase huge, hows the battery life, etc...

First, i tried through additional drivers, but after installation it keeps saying "this driver is activated but not currently in use". That is 3D-accelerated proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards.
Hi,I recently bought a Thinkpad T520 with both integrated intel gfx and nvidia discrete gfx. While I mostly use the gfx for normal usage, to hook up to an external display, I have to use the nvidia card. How can I get both the intel and nvidia drivers installed so that when I boot with intel gfx, the intel driver is used and when I reboot with nvidia, the nvidia driver is used? I
In Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal), there is no additional drivers section in system settings, in fact, it has moved to a new tab in software sources.
I'm using Ubuntu 12.10.
On April 10, Canonical published in a security notice details about an NVIDIA graphics drivers vulnerability for its Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating systems.
According to Canonical, NVIDIA graphics drivers could be made to run programs as an administrator.
It was discovered that the NVIDIA graphics drivers incorrectly handled large ARGB cursors.
