OK so I just got Ubuntu the other month or so. I'm running the 11.04 version currently and trying to install drivers for a Nvidia graphics card (it's my brother's computer and he currently cannot find the number of the card right now). I read that, to install the proper drivers for gaming, I would need to go into "Additional Drivers" and choose them myself.
I've dual-boot my Ubuntu 12.10 and I had my default 12.04 LTS problem, it is the Graphics. Usually I use the "Additional Drivers" to check out my "hidden" Graphics card. But after I replace the Precise with Quantal, I didn't found my "Additional Drivers" in System Settings!! I already download from Ubuntu Software Center, and after it finish I still can't find it.
I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my HP Probook 4330s laptop and everything seems to run fine, besides the graphic card drivers. When I go into settings -> details -> graphics it says Driver: Unknown.
I checked HP driver site, and it only had GFX-drivers for SuSE distros.
How can I get the proper drivers for this machine?
So I updated my graphic drivers using the additional drivers option and restarted my computer upon completion.
I have used rEFIt to achieve triple-boot on my 15' Retina Macbook Pro. However, for now I cannot get the nVidia drivers to work under Ubuntu 12.04 x64.
Every time after I installed the nVidia Driver, X won't restart, and give me an error of "No screens found".
I have tried both drivers from nVidia's website and drivers from Proprietary Drivers in Ubuntu's System Settings.
I simply was looking at the default drivers it gave me (under System Settings->Additional Drivers) and I selected version 96 and activated it. After it installed it asked me to restart, and I did. Now it will not boot back up; the problem is that LightDM will not come up.
I am new to Ubuntu, and I need to know a command to shut down all drivers or something.
This is my first time using Ubuntu 12.04 and needless to say, I am quite lost. My laptop uses Optimus in windows, but In ubuntu I am assuming it opts for my GT 540m. My questions is how do I install proprietary drivers and is it necessary for them. Everything seems to be working, but in the system details it says "unkown" for my graphics.
I have a compaq nx7010 laptop, with ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV250 [Mobility FireGL 9000].
This page seems to say that my graphics chip is still supported. However, Settings -> Additional Drivers is empty, and has the title 'No proprietary drivers are in use on this system'.
Whenever I play a youtube video full-screen, the framerate is really low.
I have installed newest Nvidia drivers (from their site with the .run file) on my laptop with Nvidia Geroce 420M.
After some time I decided to try out open source drivers there I went to System Settings -> Software Sources -> Additional drivers and clicked Open source drivers and applied the changes.
After a reboot I have had no Unity panel shown when I logged into the system.
