[ubuntu] Incredibly slow wireless with Ubuntu

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hello, I recently got a new laptop (Toshiba Satellite L500-1WG), and installed the latest build of Ubuntu. At first my wireless wasn't working at all, I did some searching on forums and realised it was probably an issue of my WiFi card not being compatible. My wifi card is apparently an Intel WiFi Link 5100. Using instructions on forums I managed to install the driver, and my wifi is now 'working' in the sense that I can pick up wireless networks and connect. BUT, my connection is horrifically slow. I know its not the internet connection itself because it used to work perfectly well with my old laptop (also a Toshiba Satellite, but older model) in exactly the same place. The wired connection is fine. I may have to resort back to Windows merely to save having a massive ethernet cable trailing across my floor... My internet is with O2, so it's coming through an o2 box, don't know if that's relevant. Any ideas!? (HowTos)

my wife has a Toshiba Satellite L500-1XC. I installed 10.04 on the machine when we bought it last year and it's worked fine ever since.

On Friday I ditched my Sky ADSL package (which we never had any problems using) and moved over to BT's Infinity, but I'm having problems with the WiFi.

Hi Gang, I have an older Toshiba laptop - a Satellite Pro 6100 - that I've just converted to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Everything seems to work just find except the wireless 802.11 connection.

My wired connection is working just fine. I enable wireless in the network connections menu and I see a list of the local wireless networks.

I am new to Ubuntu and I tried to install ubuntu server 12.04 on my laptop. now my problem is - I am unable to connect to the internet (I have wifi ONLY connection). ubuntu didn't recognize my built-in wifi on my Toshiba Satellite L505. Hi I have recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my Toshiba Satellite L855D-100 laptop. The wireless card is not recognized, and I have no idea where to start to get it working. I have also tried to install Linux Mint, but have the same problem there.

My ubuntu 12.04 lts does not detect any wireless network unless i reboot with the ethernet connection. With the ethernet connection, both the wifi and ethernet are detected and at that point in time, even if i remove the cable, the system keeps on running with the wifi. However, each time , i am having to boot my laptop with the cable to be able to go on the net .
