[ubuntu] Image w/o Write Protect command

http://ubuntuforums.org – What command do I use to create a HDD image file that is NOT write protected? I have an XP system with a possible corrupted MBR due to several successive power failures. I created an image file of the drive in Ubuntu using dd_rescue supplied on a live CD created by BootMed Plus. I can mount the file (image.dd) as a virtual drive but get "Disk Not Accessible. Media is write protected." when I try to view it. I am new to Ubuntu and certainly do not understand the commands. I am only interested in recovering a few files and do not care about a forensic analysis. Any help will be (Hardware)

I've created a 8GB disk image (ext4) from a partition of USB flash drive via 'dd'. I mount it to a directory: mount -o loop disk.img mount_dir/

I can access the files inside it. The problem is that when I copy files to the mount_dir, the system seems to have large IO Wait and the system is nearly hang. I also tried to copy only few small files.

Is there any way to make a bootable ubuntu usb stick from an ubuntu iso image in OSX?

If you want to mount VirtualBox drive image (vdi) in Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 use vdfuse.This Fuse module uses the VirtualBox access library to open a VirtualBox supported VD image file and mount it as a Fuse file system. The mount point contains a flat directory containing the files EntireDisk, Partition1 .. PartitionN.

Okay so using the smart option, my harddrive has 15 bad sectors, all because of a very bad hard drive. I need to pull some files from my gf laptop before resorting to buying and tossing the old drive. Im using the latest ubuntu version as my live cd. However i can not mount the hard drive because of these errors.

i want to partition raw disk image with those following commands

#creating the blank image $ dd if=/dev/zero of=example.img bs=1M count=50

#write the partition table $ parted example.img mktable msdos

#creating partition but not the file system #creating fat32 primary partition 1 to 15 MB $ parted example.img mkpart p fat32 1 15 #creating ext3 primary partition 16 to end $ parted example.img mk

Working with an 8GB SanDisk "Ultra Backup" flash drive. When inserted, Ubuntu performs two automounts.

The first is a 7.9+ GB file system, which reads and writes like any other flash drive. (At least on Linux; it does some weird things on Windows, such as copy hidden files)
