[ubuntu] IBM G40 laptop screen goes blank

http://ubuntuforums.org – Running Ubuntu 8.4.4 on an IBM G40 P4 3.0 with 512 etc... No problems other than one.....When I'm using the OS in any state and I close the lid and lift it back up the screen goes blank and nothing I try will bring it back. The only way to get back to my OS is to do a dirty shutdown and restart and hope that I'm not dumb enough to close the screen. Is this a setting issue with my IBM (bios) or with my OS (Ubuntu)?? I have no problem with my video on my ASUS G73JH laptop. In fact, it works pretty well! ^^ But the problem is when i shut the lid to my laptop. When i lift it back up, the screen in blank. It's like it's not even turned on! Whats going on? IS there any way to fix this?

EDIT: And yes, the power setting have been configured so that it doesn't suspend the computer every time i close the lid.

I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on an Asus p8z68 v-pro motherboard which is a UEFI bios. The install seems to have worked fine except for one thing, when restarting or shutting down it gets stuck at the Asus bios boot screen when starting up again (or blank screen if turning off the bios flash screen).

I have a HP Laptop loaded with 9.10 64-bit.

If i do "Lock Screen" , after some time the screen goes completely blank and it won't show the login screen. I tried by pressing multiple keys, but i am not getting the login screen. Hard rebooting is the only for me to get back into my work.

Please anyone tell me how can i solve this issue ?

I am running jaunty remix on a Samsung nc10. For about two weeks now, I often get a completely blank, white screen. This frequently happens at start-up. The screen is blank but I hear the prompt for user name and password. I can enter them, and some time later, I will see the desktop.

If I'm working on Windows 7 and close the laptop, it logs me out, and when I open it again I can log back in. However, if I close the laptop with Ubuntu running, the screen goes black and it freezes, why?

I am running the latest version of Ubuntu.

Update

Problem solved, i got the answer from ubuntu forums, I had to go to the power settings and choose "do nothing" when the lid is closed

I have a Acer Aspire 5515, 1.6Ghz AMD, 3GB RAM, ATI Xpress 1200 graphics.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. I've been running earlier versions of Ubuntu (dual-boot with Vista) on this laptop for for over 2 years without issue.

One of two problems I'm having are as follows:

WiFi connection stalls, I have to reset the connection to get it back up then it will stall again.

Can't login into account 1 year 15 weeks ago

When I boot Ubuntu, I enter my pass but then I see a blank screen and then I'm thrown back into the login screen. I am able to only access the guest account. I am using 11.10 (unity). Also, during my few hours running Ubuntu, it would occasionally crash and throw me back to the login screen, only now I cant login back anymore.
