According to the latest "ubuntu-meta" package update from the Ubuntu Quantal Quetzal repositories, Unity 2D will no longer be installed by default in Ubuntu 12.10, and Unity 2D users are being transitioned to the Unity 3D session, just like it was discussed at UDS-Q.

Hey guys!
Why is Ubuntu 13.04 still using Unity 6.6.0 when Ubuntu 12.10 has Unity 6.8.0?(Or some other version) I created a USB with a persistent space on it. Installed all of the Ubuntu 13.04 updates, and it was still on Unity 6.6.0. Since Unity 6.8.0 was released all the way back in October it seems like we should have the latest Unity version.
downloaded cyyptkeeper
sso apt-get install cryptkeper
then i ran these codes
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'Skype', 'Cryptkeeper']" setsid unity
unity went crazy, i opened terinal and typed grun then unity. well it lanched something that looked like login screen!
i a on guest user right now.
Unity 2D Settings is a simple GUI for configuring Unity 2D Desktop.
Unity 2D Settings has following features:
configure Unity Launcher Hide-Mode
enable/disable dash hotkey(Win-key)
show icons on desktop
show volumes and devices
enable compositing and compositor effects
Install Unity 2D Settings in Ubuntu:
Open up a terminal window, execute following commands to install unity-2d-settings from PP
I tested out Unity 5, and of course, it broke things, so I tried downgrading by
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:unity-team/staging
It removed Unity completely.
apt-get install unity
seemed to work, but the login screen now offers only Gnome.
How do I get back to Unity 4?
I've got Ubuntu 12.04.1, but Unity is still in the 5.14 version. I have a problem with the launcher tooltips, but it got fixed in Unity 5.16. How can I update it?
I have removed the Unity DE using this command:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove unity unity-2d-places unity-2d unity-2d-panel unity-2d-spread unity-asset-pool unity-services unity-lens-files unity-lens-music unity-lens-applications gir1.2-unity-4.0 unity-common indicator-sound indicator-power indicator-appmenu libindicator7 indicator-application evolution-indicator indicator-datetime indicator-mess
I installed Unity 5.0 to test it but I am having many problems with it, for example, the lenses don't work.
