[ubuntu] Huge fonts problem with i945GM

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi, I have "huge fonts" issue described in this topic http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1309363 as well as here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1208199 and many other places. I've been using Ubuntu 8.04 and after gradually upgraded to 8.10-9.04-9.10 the problem appeared. The issue appears in some non-gnome applications such as Emacs 23 or Google Earth. I tried many things: creating ~/.Xresources with Xft.dpi:96, system-wide /etc/X11/Xresources, adding -dpi 96 to /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc, setting DisplaySize in xorg.conf along with Option "NoDDC". None has solved the issue. The only way it works is when I stop xserver and then run startx -- -dpi 96 from console. Thanks, Denis Attached Files Xorg.0.log.zip (5.6 KB) (Hardware)

I'm having trouble getting my computer to recognise any bluetooth device, including my Wiimote and cell phone. I have a USB Bluetooth dongle that appears to be working. When I plug it in, I get the bluetooth symbol in my device tray.

I am getting one of these tablets off eBay and was wondering if Ubuntu would work on it. The post there says "Everything works great but cpu scaling and battery capacity" what does that mean? Will it be able to use both CPU Cores?

This thread is more like discussion. What packages to remove/purge in new Ubuntu to make the system faster and more stable? If you are like advanced Ubuntu user and don't need all that eye-candy and "easy-to-use" features.
