I can not get my Ubuntu 11.10 system to recognize the scanner in my HP Photosmart 5510 multi-funtion printer. I have loaded the HPLIP extras from my terminal window and loaded the latest HPLIP. I have searched the web and all forums for any mention of Photosmart 5510 Ubuntu drivers with no success. I have Simple Scan, Skanlite, and XSane all installed.
So I have an HP Photosmart c4483 and Ubuntu 9.04 on a Dell Inspiron e1405. Not only does the printer work incredibly slowly, but as of recently it fails to print in general giving me the

error. I use HPLIP. Any help?
Hello Everyone,I have an HP B110 Photosmart scanner/printer. It prints faultlessly wirelessly but I cannot get it to scan either wirelessly or wired.I've installed xsane & simple-scan but that doesn't detect it.
When Running as root user xsane starts-up almost instantly and is able to perform scans.
When running xsane as normal user it takes abbout 5-10 minutes before xsane starts (it hangs on scanning for devices), after that it shows the scanner and it is able to perform the scan.
I have tested this when the Printer/Scanner is connected over network and on USB, with both hplip 3.11.7 (supplied wit
I have been working on this for a few months now and finally fixed it. Here is the story:
I have an HP Photosmart c4385. It is a wireless Printer/Scanner. After performing clean installs of older and newer Ubuntu distributions I found that I could still printer wirelessly with no problem with install or functionality. However, the scanner only worked if it was connected via USB.
Just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and having tried many previous releases I can say that I was very impressed! I was very impressed when my HP printer/scanner which is networked was detected OK and printing is no problem. However my happy mood was dashed when I opened XSANE and was told no devices were found. The HP site says that 5100 devices should print and scan over a network with Ubuntu 9.10.
I have a Brother MFC-7420, which also works as a scanner. I have attached this machine to a computer running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit via USB.
I installed the following package:
brscan2-0.2.4-0.i386.deb
Now when I start xsane, the device is detected. However, when I try to scan or run a preview scan, I get the message Invalid Argument.
What can I do to get this scanner running?
Somewhat new to Linux.
I'm running OpenSuse 11.2 and have been having some problems with my c7280 "all-in-One". I initially configured the printer through Yast using the Network IP: Port and driver method. I can get the printer to work correctly, however scanner is not detected even with HP setup. I can't seem to manually configure the scanner.
Nothing earth-shattering but... I have an HP Photosmart USB printer that I configured with HPLIP (which seemingly "exports" into CUPS). All is well until the printer is turned off and then back on again sometime later: somebody, somewhere automagically adds the printer to CUPS so that I have two, count 'em, printers defined.

lpstat -t
