I failed to find a clean answer to this issue. HP Pavilion Dv6, just installed Ubuntu 12.10 after Windows 7 got too annoying. Ubuntu is currently the only OS on the laptop.
I used to only have 12.04 on here, and everything worked fine.
Hi all. I seem to need help.
Overnight, my ubuntu installation appears to have developed a major problem. It fails to boot.
To be more exact, the computer starts normally when switched on, but it takes ages for the GRUB screen to appear.
I cannot get the new 11.2 to install on my machine. THe moment i hit enter at the boot prompt to begin installation, the scree just goes black and unresponsive - caps & scroll lock lights on the keyboard light up and remain lit. no disk activity whatsoever. I tried installing various resolutions, in text mode none gets past the black screen.

I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my Laptop (Intel Dual Core/Nvidia Graphics).
I am able to boot from cd and I reach the purple screen (here)
But after this screen there is a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have seen all the similar topics but haven't solved it yet.

Is it possible to install Ubuntu 12.04 on Hp Pavilion dm4 1265dx? When I try to install from a usb a black screen is displayed after I select the boot from from usb option.
So, I have been running Ubuntu for about a month now. I chose to encrypt when I installed, so I am prompted for the password I set when I boot.
I have an old Sony Vaio that has Win XP installed on it. I added a second hard drive and am attempting to install Ubuntu 12.10 on that. The install went fine, but when I removed the live cd and rebooted, all I got was a black screen with a flashing cursor.

I tried flashing it and my phone won't boot.
Full wipe-->Clear Cache-->Clear Dalvik Cache-->Install Rom(v1.0)-->Install flashable v1.1.0update-->boot loader n then flash boot.img through fastboot.
The phone gets stuck on a black screen after T-Mobile logo appears.
I've been trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 on a laptop for a friend, but I can't seem to get it to display anything. In order to make the installer work, I had to run it in nomodeset mode, otherwise the screen was almost completely black. I could very dimly see the install screen, but barely.
