My update manager does not give me the option to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10. That is, the "New distribution release '12.10' is available. Click Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions" section is not shown.
I had the same problem upgrading to 12.04. Spent hours trying to upgrade the system, got lucky somehow, don’t definitively know how.
How do I do an upgrade to 12.10 using the iso downloaded from the ubuntu web site? I do not want to do a clean install as I do not want to loose my settings. I am afraid that clicking "UPGRADE TO 12.10" in update manager will upgrade the OS and all the packages and that this will take all my monthly data from my contract which is just 3gig a month.
hello,
I'm trying to upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 but nothing happens. the GUI "update manager" tells me that I might upgrade to 12.04 but when I click on the button nothing happens.
From shell this is what I see:
Quote:
sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information...
Hi,
I recently upgraded my vps hosted server from 10.10 maverick to natty and then to oneiric and every step has been a colossal disaster.
I made a mistake.
I tried to upgrade my Ubuntu from 10.04 LTS.
Then, I upgraded to 10.10.
It's really funny, then, the system tells me this is an unsupported version, and I cannot upgrade to another unsupported version target.
So, I think this is an issue for Ubuntu community.
10.04 is a LTS version, which should provide a way for the user to upgrade to 12.04 directly.
So I finally checked to see if I could upgrade to 12.04.1 through the update manager and it's there saying I can upgrade. I already upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04 so I'm thinking about going to 12.04. This is, my PC is pretty old. It has about 600MB or RAM so would that be enough?
I had a PC that had about 2GB of RAM, but it died. Funny how newer PC's seem to crap out more than the old ones.
Now Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) LTS(Long time support) beta1 has released and the final stable version will be released on April 29, 2010.Here is how to upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 or 8.04 LTS.
To upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 on a desktop system:
My upgrade manager prompted me for an upgrade to 12.10 from 12.04. So, clicked on upgrade. It has been 4+ hours now and the system is still trying to upgrade. The progress bar is still at around 10%. So, it may take more than 24 hours to upgrade. This compared to a clean build which might have taken less than an hour.
Today when i started backtrack it requested to upgrade the system.I made the upgrade and after the 10 minutes the upgrade crashed and also the internet. Now when i want to execute apt-get upgrade it says 0 upgraded,0 newly installed,- to remove and 188 not upgraded. It does not want to upgrade.
