Why the heck don't motherboard and BIOS manufacturers display the BIOS version in a better place? They could display it on one of the BIOS setup screens - is that just too "far out" and crazy?
Took ages to find these particular versions of "AFUDOS" DOS BIOS flasher for AMI BIOS, esp Asus mobos.
These versions allow BIOS downgrading...

You will need to put this on a bootable CD or USB drive along with your BIOS file, as the Bios file is over 2MB and will not fit on a floppy.

I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a vista laptop, but Dell is providing the BIOS update in .exe format currently my bios version is A09 but on the driver download site the latest version of bios is A011.
Currently we are given the option to download a live cd/dvd version. We can either burn a CD/DVD or we can use a USBinstaller to create a bootable USB flash.
My question and request is why not combine the two.

My hard drive and DVD drive are not being detected by the BIOS when I go in to the boot option menu by pressing F12. When I put the hard drive in a different computer it's being detected. I am assuming it's either the mother board or the BIOS.
hi guys, i just got a laptop off a friend for a few quid, but the problem is when i got it it wouldnt read disks and i bought a new dvd drive and still nothing.. i think i can sort it with a bios update.. the problem is that bios updates are risky at the best of times and hp only does a version for windows.. is it possible to update the bios in ubuntu with out to much risk..
