I'm trying to run a jar application under Ubuntu, so I installed OpenJDK Java 7 Runtime, but when I open this application I got this message :
The file '/home/aimad/Programms/jMerise/JMerise.jar' is not marked as
executable. If this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted
source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the
executable bit.

I'm trying to get onto freenet, which requires java runtime environment to be installed.
Hi there,
After I performed fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 on sda drive, I cannot change perms on one of the files to make it executable.
I own the file as a user, i ran chmod as user or root with either +x, or u+x, or 700. Command runs, but file is still rw, not rwx.
I even tried to right click on it using GUI, then click the box for the "executable".
I need to run the executable file by double clicking. While double click the executable its asking below message
"Myapp" is an executable file. Do you want to execute it? with option
Executable
Execute in Terminal
Cancel
Its running Fine when I press executable. How to run the executable without above message display? in linux.
I am on Ubuntu 12.10 and i was wondering it there is a tool or an "Box" to run an executable inside it. And by doing so check if the executable is malicious...
maybe a virtual machine where i can see everything that the executable is doing!
Or the tools that the specialists who works for antivirus companies and task forces uses!!!
I wouldn't mind something with a graphical interface
I installed Ubuntu yesterday and its finally running right(I think.) I found a website for Linux users https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ListOfOpenSourcePrograms and im trying to download a antivirus.
Well, I have 3 network shares and I have made 3 different shortcuts on my desktop to go directly to these locations, but since I upgraded from Xubuntu 12.04 to 13.04 I'm not able to open these locations anymore.
This question copied over from Super-User, where it was apparently unwelcome. Anyway, asked and answered:
I'm setting up a GitHub account and have downloaded Git's git-credential-osxkeychain executable via the Password Caching section of GitHub's instructions. But... I am paranoid enough to look for some reassurance that I've got my hands on the right thing.
