[ubuntu] How to install nvidia drivers?

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi, I've been trying to get my graphic card working under ubuntu and opensuse but to no avail. First, i tried through additional drivers, but after installation it keeps saying "this driver is activated but not currently in use". That is 3D-accelerated proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards. (version current). Nvidia settings panel says: "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server." The thing is when I run 'nvidia-xconfig' it replaces my xorg.conf (Hardware)

Im very new to the world of Ubuntu/backtrack, which I'm very eager to learn much more!

Ive been hindered by the installation of nvidia drivers. So far i have installed all of the nvidia drivers and the cpu toolkit, but im stuck at the famous no screen error at "startx" command.

xorg.conf :

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig # nvidia

I tried to start my nvidia driver using nvidia-xconfig and now my screen resolution is stuck to 640x480. That is the only option displayed in System Settings -> Display. My default resolution was 1366x768.

I go to the nvidia system settings and I get this message: "You do not appear to using the NVIDIA X driver.

Hi!

I have had a problem with my screen setup on linux since i bought this computer.

I'm using Waldorf with Jessie, Liquorix and proprietary NVIDIA drivers 304.It started either when I update drivers (tried both 304 and 319) or when I installed the Liquorix kernel.Whenever I start my PC up, the screen is quite bright and I have to manually set the brightness and contrast in the NVIDIA settings (color correction).

I have a problem with nvidia ion in ubuntu 12.04 I found some solutions for another eee pc here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1677780 and http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=301 but are strictly for another model of asus eee pc.

My problem is:

nvidia-settings says: You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver.
