Hello...
I had ubuntu 11.04 installed on another complete hard drive thats not even connected with my main hard drive. see I Just unhooked my Windows vista hard drive. and put another drive to run ubuntu.
This is my situation:
I Installed Ubuntu without a CD (using A USB)
Dual boot installation (Windows 7+Ubuntu)
I did not like the installation and decided to boot into Windows and delete the Linux partitions, but I forgot to fix the mbr from within Windows.
Now, when I boot, I am stuck in the GRUB rescue limbo.
How can I boot into Windows from GRUB rescue?
I cannot boot from CD because I don't
I have two hard drives. One with Windows 8, the other I was using for w8 "File History". I decided to try Linux Mint on it. I installed Mint just fine on my second hard drive.
Hi, I recently decided that I want to run a dual boot of Ubuntu 9.10 (main) and Winblows XP (games).
I'm a novice in the Linux world. Windows 7 is my primary OS. Trying to run Ubuntu with Windows. Failed so far.
I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 in a second hard disk. I chose second hard disk's MBR to store boot record for Ubuntu. So /dev/sda contains Windows bootloader and /dev/sdb contains Ubuntu bootloader (I think).
The installation went without any problem.
I had Windows 7 and Ubuntu on my hard disk. I had installed Ubuntu using Wubi. To uninstall Ubuntu I deleted the Ubuntu partitions from Windows 7 Disk Management. When I re-boot my computer it shows grub rescue>.
What do I need to do to re-gain access to Windows? I do not have a Windows 7 DVD. Commands like rootnoverify, chainloader do not work in grub rescue. I get an unknown command error.
Everybody will understand this problem I think, but somebody will have the solution (I can't find it on here even after searching). It's a straightforward (!) boot up issue (I wish!!!!).
I have a laptop with several partitions. One of them is Ubuntu 12.04.1, another is Oracle VM, another is Windows XP etc.
Okay I may have screwed up my computer majorly but here it goes:
I was using a duel boot of Windows XP and Ubuntu under GRUB. I upgraded Ubuntu and it stopped being able to load. So I just started using Windows XP exclusively. My Windows XP was very slow and lagging so I tried to reinstall it from the reinstall feature built into my copy of Windows. Once I tried this...
After I install Ubuntu 12.04 and reboot, the boot loader starts then a bunch of colors fill the screen like static. Then when i go to run windows booting from the hard drive with windows on it it tells me missing operating system.
