I tried to install a recent kernal update that got hung up and wouldn't finish so I aborted the update. After that I could no longer use $sudo modprobe b43 to initiate my wireless connection. My strategy is to establish a wired connection, make sure all updates could be installed, and then try to establish the wireless connection again. However, I cannot establish a wired connection.
On a Toshiba laptop I need both wired and wireless capability.
I started by installing Ubuntu 10 but couldnt get any internet, wired or wireless and the wireless usb mouse didnt work.
Ok, I have an old Compaq Presario v2000 that recently had Ubuntu 10.04 installed on it. The wired internet worked when it was installed, but the wireless didn't. I tried to download the drivers for it and it failed everytime. I did an update thinking that the update might fix the wireless, but it didn't, it actually made my wired connection stop working.
I recently installed xfce4 with a wired connection and used the newly updated install cd ISO. After using the wired connection to install what I needed I went on to install what is needed for the wireless setup. I went with wpa_supplicant and networkmanager. I configured my wpa_supplicant.conf appropriately and installed the drivers needed for my atheros wireless adapter.
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I'm having to move from a wired connection for my mini PC running 10.04 to wireless. I've bought a little USB wireless adapter called an NTI WF-2110 but can not get Ubuntu to see it, and I can't find any Ubuntu drivers online. Am I being dumb or did I buy an incompatible product?
Thanks in advance.
Since I replaced Windows 7 with Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (3.2.0-38-generic x86_64) my wireless speeds have decreased dramatically. However, the wired connection works just fine. I thought that maybe my laptop or the wireless card was at fault, but when I use it at work it works fine (I get up to 10 Mb/s down, which is the max)...
I just installed my first Ubuntu desktop as a dual boot with Windows 7. I had to install without internet access because my wireless wouldn't connect, it's not possible to use a wired connection.
My usb WiFi adapter was bought off Ebay recently and says compatible with Linux...
I purchased USB Wireless adapter which runs smoothly on Windows and Ubuntu, but in BackTrack it showing me Bad password issue. From my reading I guess it's driver issue which BackTrack Kernel don't have drivers for RTL8191SU (my) Adapter.
The Realtek site have drivers for kernels 2.6-2.9.
I am trying to install wireless network drivers but I couldn't find any driver for wireless under network drivers. I just installed ubuntu 9.10 today but my wireless is not there. I am able to connect through wire but not wireless.
