I just tried sharing the old My Videos file folder on my 500GB Windows drive and it shows that it's shared but when I try to access it over the network it's saying I don't have permission. I checked the box to allow guests access. Still no sharing. How do I accomplish this?
In my Home Folder it shows as 500GB device with the eject symbol next to it.
I have an ubuntu running 12.04. I have a 2nd hdd on it. On that drive is a Videos folder. I set share permissions on it so my MBP could connect to that folder, and share videos that are on my MBP to the ubuntu box.
I have tried two ways for sharing a folder on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit so that I could access it on a Windows XP PC on the same switch:
1st: right-clicking the folder > properties > share > Share this folder and checking both "Allow others to create and delete files in this folder" and "Guest access (for people without a user account)"
2nd: adding the folder to Samba
Is it OK to delete /boot/usr folder because it contains copies of some folders from the /usr folder and I'm running out of disk space. What folder should be in the /boot folder and how do I know if a folder is not needed through the files and directories tree?
I'm on Ubuntu 11.04.
Thanks in advance.
Hello all. I am still somewhat new to linux.
I dual boot backtrack 5 R3 and ubuntu 13.04.
During the installation of ubuntu I chose to encrypt the home folder now whenever I boot backtrack and I need a file that's on Documents or any folder of the Home Folder of the ubuntu partition it won't let me and I don't know how to fix that!!
Thanks!
I have a Ubuntu 12.10 machine connected to a windows network where I can access a publicly shared folder. I can see most files and folders but, in what seems like a random selection, some are hidden. If I use the terminal to open nautilus directly to a folder I know exists it opens it without problem but the parent folder still doesn't show that folder. Can anyone help?
Hi Folks
I just installed a new HDD Raid in my Ubuntu 12.04 box, and that went fine. But I am trying to share this drive, which is mounted at /mnt/data, to my entire network, and it is giving me errors when trying to write to the directory.
I followed the steps here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/server...ileserver.html
and my folder is setup exactly as above, but I can't write it to.
I originally had a problem with my linux which was a elf grub rescue error. I followed a couple of advices but my linux ended up with a blank screen. I tried to access my files via ubuntu live CD and they are still there intact.
This should be very simple for experts in here.
I have a Linux account with user disk quota of only 6GB. There is some data-folder in /opt with about 3GB of data with when compressed comes up 1GB. There are some symbolic links with in data-folder.
