Hi all,
I recently switched to Linux, and FC11 is my first Linux distro. I was having some trouble loading web pages before--specifically, it was taking a relatively long time. So, of course, I went to find out why this might be, and how I might fix it.
Hello, im running server 12.4 LTS on an old pc. I can get the static ip working after i add the "nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" to /etc/resolv.conf But after a reboot my resolv.conf file is over written and my internet connecgion does not work. I can still ssh to it, change the resolv.conf file and restart my interfaces but id rather it work from boot up.
I have Gentoo Linux amd64 installed on one of my computers.
I have a static IP configured at /etc/conf.d/net:
auto_eth0="true"
config_eth0="192.168.1.2/24"
routes_eth0="default via 192.168.1.1"
enable_ipv6_eth0="false"
I manually edited /etc/resolv.conf and added google dns servers.
the problem is that whenever I restart my server /etc/resolv.conf gets wiped out.
Hi,
I am using Ubuntu 9.04 (x86-64).
My internet connection is not working, i've tried to fix it and the issue seems to be with DNS. I can ping google's IP, but i can ping it URL.
I have used the GUI network manager(from Gnome's equivalent of the Windows system tray), to add the DNS IP addresses to the IPv4 wired connection - that hasn't helped.
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and I managed to stomp on my /etc/resolv.conf file. I believe this is the cause of me getting
ping: unknown host www.google.com
It says resolv.conf is auto generated but I cannot figure out how to regenerate this file back to its previous default settings. I've checked many forums and the man files and I am stuck.
Appreciate any help.
I used ubuntu 9.1 and 10.04 with my Netgear WGT624 v3 11g router. There were problems resolving host names on the internet. The DNS resolving would be fine for 10 seconds and started to be slow (>4 seconds) when resolving new websites at firefox and at console using ping www.google.com.
I have installed openSUSE KDE and want to use the OpenDNS service.
The Knetworkmanager don't have a tab for the IPaddress and DNS.
I modified /etc/sysconfig/network/config NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SERVERS to "208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220"
I installed ddclient and commented the ssl=no line in the /etc/ddclient.conf. After add the following
Hello,
for security reason I use locked DNS setting (chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf).
Sometimes I use VPN services, but they in common do not allow other then own DNS servers.
So I need to add route to my DNS servers via "previous" default GW (eth0 or ppp0).
To do so manually is no problem but how to do so automatically in NetworkManager ?
If I use "routes" in NM applet th
hi, I have two questions, the first is probably involved.
1) I am trying to change my DNS servers and after checking the internet on how to do it I am at a complete loss. I am using 12.04 64 bit, xubuntu with the xfce DE.
My ISP has DNS servers that are used, but I want to change them and try some different servers.
