Hi all,
After 2 plus years of dedicated Ubuntu use I'm no longer surprised by what it can do! The attached screenshot is from the laptop my wife is currently using to do all her work on! I am fairly confident this laptop is around 10 years old or so.
My laptop works perfectly fast with Windows 7 but is very slow in Ubuntu 12.04.When I try to open the dash it takes 1-2 sec.even the normal right click on the desktop for the dropdown options is taking time.I installed preload but it made a very slight change.
My computer (Sony Vaio VPCF22S1E) has Inter Core i7 (2GHz) processor, 8GB RAM (details) . There are 2 operation systems on my PC . Windows 7 and Ubuntu. My computer's performance was great, a few months ago. But now it's very slow. Windows is faster than Ubuntu, but still Windows is really slow, too.
Actually, i'm not using Windows 7.
Hey Guys
I have always been a big fan of Ubuntu. I used to use it on my desktop computer here at work until I needed a Windows environment for the software that I now have to use.
I wish to install Ubuntu at home but there is a small problem, one that I know you experts would be able to help me out with.
The problem is that I am an avid gamer.
Hello all. I don't know how many times I've done this, but I have gone from using just Windows for gaming, to dual-booting Windows and Ubuntu, to just using Ubuntu. Back and forth, for a few years now. I want to get back into desktop/laptop gaming and I know the options of dual-booting or VM even, those are not a problem.
I have installed ubuntu 12.04 32bit on Vmware esxi 5 update 1.
The virtual machine is: 2 core, 4 GB RAM, 64 MB VGA.
Still the vm is very very slow (with and without the vmware tools) .
On my portable computer Alienware M11x running Ubuntu, any kernel version after 3.0.0.12 boots up in an appallingly slow fashion.
3.0.0.12 will boot at least 3 or 4 times faster then any of the newer kernel. Any idea what changed post 3.0.0.12 that would explain this ?
Newer kernels are of course nice but until I figure out why booting them is so slow it will be hard to switch.
I have a laptop which works very well with windows 7. It has 4GB memeory and 650 GB Hard disk drive. It is Intel-based with core i7. I downloaded Ubuntu but every time I run ubuntu my laptop gets hot , slow and it is suddenly switched off interrupting my work. I do not know what is the exact problem but I thought the problem with the hardware. It might be not suitable for Ubuntu.
Hi, I am new to Ubuntu and I would like to give Ubuntu 12.10 a try on my laptop. I am using an Acer Aspire 4530 laptop with the following specs:
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core processor 2.10GHz
3GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 9100MG GPU
I am thinking of replacing my current Windows Vista OS(32-bit) with Ubuntu, so will it slow down my laptop?
