[ubuntu] HELP! Sound device gone from output list!

http://ubuntuforums.org – Can anyone in here help?, sound was working fine this morning. I plugged in a HDMI cable and sound worked fine through the TV. I unplugged it and sound never returned. Even after a reboot. It won't come back. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and the onboard sound works.

Fresh install f17, no sound 43 weeks 3 days ago

As far as I can tell, the drivers I need are installed. But still no sound.

Can you please help me solve this problem.

I've done an exhaustive search for a solution. Any links or information regarding how to get HDMI sound to work will be greatly appreciated.

I've just set up Ubuntu running on what I hope to be a media computer. Video over HDMI works fine but audio does not. I'm using the onboard HDMI port on a Asus F1A75-M motherboard.

I have an F17 machine with an Intel Ivy Bridge CPU w/embedded Intel HD4000 GPU.

When I plug my HDMI into a TV the video works great but I get no sound.

aplay -l

I've got onboard sound and an nvidia card with HDMI out. I managed to get sound going out of the nvidia for my XBMC setup but I can't get my onboard sound to actually do anything. I want XBMC to the hdmi and everything else to be local.

I've bought a tv a few days ago, tried to connect my laptop via hdmi cable to it - worked perfectly, I just had to choose right audio device output as hdmi and it worked with no issues.

So I've tried to connect my desktop computer to the tv using hdmi cable - video works with no issues, but there's no sound.
