Hello all
I have a configured samba server on a Suse 11 machine
the problem is that when the samba server is connected to the network
the workgroup gets blocked, when i click on view workgroup computers in my network places, of a windows machine, i get a message telling that my workgroup is not accessible
when the samsa server is not on there is no problem with the workgroup
Thanks for the replie
I've read several threads regarding the setup and use of Samba, and Samba has always been working fine until recently. I didn't change anything, but for some reason, it appears that Samba only resolves hosts on the default "Workgroup" workgroup. However, the /etc/samba/smb.conf file is setup to use a different workgroup.
Hi guysI installed gvfs-smb to access samba shares in Nautilus. Now there is an icon in the "Browse Network" section of Nautilus called "Windows Network". This link works sporadically. Sometimes I open it and no workgroups are present. Sometimes I'll see a workgroup but no shares are available.
I'm setting up an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS samba server. A lot of guides tell you to change workgroup from the default 'workgroup' to something else, e.g.
Hey guys, I'm guessing the update to samba 4 has broken my samba partially, my samba shares seem to no longer be visible, but I can still access them. Probably an out of date config file, any chance of help with it?These are super simple shares for my family home, no passwords, simple direct guest access. Windows computers are the main clients, other than my own linux ones.
I seem to be having a problem I don't understand. I have xubuntu running on an old laptop. I loaded Samba and configured my workgroup name, turned on user security and added a share.
On the xubuntu laptop I can see the network, see the workgroup, see the server and log into the share. Right now I don't have ufw enabled, but assume I should.
Assalam o Alaikum!
After configuring and starting service of samba, when I access shared folder from windows XP it gives this error " Network Route was not found".
My server IP 192.168.1.252, client is on same network.

workgroup = WORKGROUP
server string = Samba Server Version %v
; netbios name = MYSERVER

Ok, I'm going more than a little nuts here...
Here's what's happening. I have one PC (morpheus) on which I've chosen to share a couple of folders in the home directory. The folders show the "Shared" icon in them and are chmod 777'd. I can access them by going to Dolphin -> Network -> Samba Shares -> Workgroup -> Morpheus -> Foldername ...
Hi fellas
I am setting up a samba server at work to be a fileserver for our windows network. It's all very basic, we have a mix of laptops and desktops running mainly windows 7 and a few Vista. Some connect wirelessly to the router, and the desktop and Ubuntu Server are on Cat 5.
I installed Ubuntu server yesterday and installed it with samba.
