I had installed ubuntu 12.10 with security key for enscrypting system hard disk which requires you to enter the passphrase before the login screen every time you boot your system...
To install ArtistX you will need at least 512 MB of Ram and 20 gigabytes of disk space (also if installing in VirtualBox or other emulators).
Backup, backup, backup: save your most important files on an external hard disk or DVD.
Hello,
Many processes enter in disk sleep mode and stops (Hang) and return to work after 10 to 20 seconds.
In System Monitor i get "Disk Sleep" like this:

I'm trying to share a hard disk in my Ubuntu machine with the rest of my network (Windows machines) using Samba. I can share files and folders on the file system drive just fine, but whenever I try it on the seperate disk the other machines can see the share but they can't access it.
I send my hdd to sleep with /sbin/hdparm -S 241 /dev/sd[ab] every day at 8:30 pm. If there's no activity for 30 minutes the drive will enter standby.
At 06:00 am I want to change the 30 minutes to 4 hours.
But when I enter /sbin/hdparm -S 248 /dev/sd[ab] in the morning both drives spin up.
My laptop hard disk got crashed. But until I replace I want to do my home works. So I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on 16GB Kingston DT101 G2 pen drive.
My question is, using my pen drive as my regular disk for 1 or 2 weeks is that OK ? Will I get any problems in my pen drive? After I replace my hard disk can I use that pen drive as normal ( just assume I will use my laptop at least 12 hours per day).
Hello,
I currently have the older version of ubuntu 10.04, and wish to upgrade my hard disk that it is on. Its currently on a 300GB Sata drive. But I wish to now transfer the OS onto a 120GB SSD hard disk, as its much faster!
The ubuntu partition is only 100GB so it shouldnt be a problem.
But how would I go about doing this? Is there some utility i can use?
I installed Ubuntu using the alternate installation disk and opted for the option of full disk encryption.
However the OS shows unstable behavior. After a few minutes of using it, it reacts very slow. The computer sometimes (temporarily) freezes or even crashes when an application (like Firefox) is opened.
I do use a pretty old (second hand) hard disk.
