i just moved, and we've had a small power failure, now when booting it reboots several times before giving the above error... help?
its ubuntu 10.04
and the error comes up before i can get to the boot selection menu, and thus, the cd will not boot... :S
I have both Precise and Quantal installed on separate partitions on same HDD.
While installing Quantal, in my forgetfulness I let it install Grub. No issues so far. Machine works fine.
However, whenever there is Grub version upgrade on either versions of Ubuntu or if I run update-grub in either the Grub gets replaced by the version where the upgrade or update happened.
Let me be more clear.
Ive just saw a thread where the OP replaces Ubuntu on a second drive, and Ubiquity installs grub on the second drive as well. This obviously results in Ubuntu not booting, if the version of Ubuntu that they are replacing has a older grub version (even a few minor versions off).
Shouldn't Ubiquity be automatically selecting the main HDD (i.e.
So... I have a MacBook Air and I recently tried to install Ubuntu on my external HD. I booted Ubuntu from a flash drive and everything had gone fine. I turned off my computer and when I turned it on again I got a message of error and a "grub rescue" line to enter some code.
So, on my laptop I have two OS'es. Debian Squeeze and Windows 7. My problem is that Grub doesn't load anything. It stops on the message " Grub Loading.". Now I am trying to solve that problem using Parted Magic distribution. I guess that the main cause which gave a rise to everything is the improper Windows shutdown. What I mean is that Windows seems to be hibernated.
Hi,
I'm a pretty new Ubuntu user, and I can't figure out what to do from searching other threads.
Anyway, here's my situation:
I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed on a partition, and OSX 10.7 on another, and it worked great. Then after I installed 10.8, my Ubuntu partition no longer worked.

After upgrade to 12.04 my GRUP was broken. I thought that a single problem so I booted from Ubuntu CD, mounted my Ubuntu disk, then grub-install, restarted PC and everything was fine again. But I've noticed that GRUB crashed after every GRUB packages update. I did today 12.10 upgrade and it happen again. Is that GRUB issue or maybe is something wrong with my hardware?
I recently installed Waldorf onto an external hard drive to check it out, but now when I try to boot into Statler without my external hard drive plugged in I get this:GRUB loading
