[ubuntu] Grub entries after dual boot and boot repair

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hello, I have succesfully installed Ubuntu 12.10 x64 in my new Asus laptop ( with Windows 8 preinstalled. After the boot I can't boot in Windows 8 and I run Boot Repair. Now I can boot in Windows 8 but there are many entries in my grub. I want to clear the unused grub entries with a safe way. My Grub entries: Ubuntu -> Boots ok! Windows 8 (loader) ---> Still gives error 2 Entries for System/Windows Recovery -> I didn't tried them :p Windows UEFI bootmgfw.efi (/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi) -> Boots Ok Windows Boot UEFI loader (/EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi) -> Boots Ok But Which of (Hardware)

Yesterday I installed ubuntu 12.04.1.

Note : its a dual boot system along windows 7

At first grub was appearing and i was able to start ubuntu but then i had to switch to windows but windows was not booting when i select windows 7 it jumps back to grub window. So i fix the Windows Boot Loader using repair from windows media and wolla windows started to boot but Ubuntu Grub gone.

I have a dual-boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu with a custom boot-loader (long story).

My problem is that when I boot up, I get the choices for Windows and Ubuntu in my custom boot-loader, and if I choose Ubuntu, I then get GRUB, with a working Linux entry and a bunch of other entries that don't really make sense.

So basically what I am trying to do is completely remove GRUB, and just use my custom boo

Okay, here is the deal. I installed Ubuntu 11.10 in October or so, so that it would dual boot on my laptop along with Windows Vista. I haven't had any problems with the set up since then. It would boot using the Windows boot loader which I noted was different from my desktop which would use Grub.

I've bought new laptop Sony Vaio E14P series. It has pre-installed Windows 8, and I want to dual boot it with Ubuntu 12.10 64bit. I have diabled secure boot and install Ubuntu without any problem from live USB.

When I reboot after installation, it directly boot to windows 8, dont load GRUB at all. So I went to live USB again to boot-repair.

Hi folks. I desperately need to do my taxes today, but do not have access to the windows 8 partition on my system. I have a dual boot, 12.10/Windows 8 UEFI laptop (Asus N56 variant) and lost the windows entry in grub yesterday after re-installing the root partition for Ubuntu.

I've installed 12.0.4 alongside windows 8 on a UEFI based system.

It boots into Linux fine from its menu and it boots into Windows 8 if I pick the third option on the menu - which doesn't have a sensible name

I also have lots of menu entries that seem to be duplicates.

So how can I get rid of those duplicate entries and change the oddly titled menu entry to boot Win 8

I have just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my Sony Vaio T. I first shrank my C: in Windows 8. Then installed Ubuntu and used the space to set up a Swap and the rest was my /. I ran Boot-Repair. ect ect.

So my problem is that the GRUB menu will come up and Windows won't start. It will go to the troubleshoot screen. Then I CAN start Windows through there.

I've done something stupid.

When I first installed Ubuntu, things went mostly fine, the machine had Windows 7 installed already and I wanted to add Ubuntu. EFI made a bit of a mess of things, long story short I booted into a live session and used boot-repair to fix GRUB for me.

This made GRUB list 4 Windows boot alternatives and the usual two Ubuntu options.

Then I did something stupid.
