I want to install 12.04 on one hard disk and Windows 7 on another.
Windows 7 is set already installed on one hard disk, but when I try to boot
to it I get a "grub rescue" prompt and I don't know what to do with that.
I installed 12.04 to the other drive and again I got the grub rescue prompt
when I restarted the system to complete the installation.
Ok, so I know what your thinking, "why cant people just google and find out about nomodeset?", right?
Well I did find out about nomodeset, but I'm not sure I'm using it correctly.
I loaded 12.04 alongside XP on my computer. First experience with Ubuntu.
I got Ubuntu to work, had some difficulty getting Grub to show up, but managed to get that fixed.
From Grub, I selected my XP boot, and all I got was a black screen with blinking cursor. I rebooted, and now Grub is gone.
Hi,
I have been using ubuntu alongside windows for many of these years right from 6.06 days.
I installed ubuntu via Wubi. So the computer should boot and screen should show me the Boot options (Windows/ubuntu).Am i right ??
For the past 2 months, I have been facing this problem.
I have recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my PC which is running Windows 7. I downloaded the iso and burnt it to disk then booted Ubuntu off the disk and selected the "install along side current operating system" option. After the installation I was unable to boot either Windows 7 or ubuntu.
I have been trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 on my new Lenovo laptop. The specs are
CPU - AMD A-8 3500M
GPU - AMD Radeon HD 6620G
4gb RAM
Currently on WIndows 7 64 bit (YUCK)
So I put the 32bit Ubuntu 11.10 onto a cd-r, and booted it. I got to the menu screen and hit Install. Screen eventually turned off, so I looked around on the internet and found I have to use the nomodeset option.
Having installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 by wubi from XP I cant boot to start Ubuntu. The install app let me 2 options in windows loader. 1.- Windows Xp Professional. and 2.- Ubuntu. If I acces the frist option I get access to Windows Xp correctly but if select 2.
I installed CentOS on my machine from my USB. I did a minimal CentOS USB drive with UNetbootin. After I install the CentOS, when i try to reboot, it does not starts. I have only the cursor blinking on a black screen.
Note: If I install the boot loader on flash drive, the system starts correctly when the USB drive is plugged in.
i just installed ubuntu 12.10 alongside windows 7 but now my computer automatically boots to ubuntu. i want windows 7 as my default operating system. when i start up my laptop it shows me no settings or any screen asking me what operating system to use.
