Still no success in changing the icon of python scripts. They remain like gedit icons.
The CPU beep is a really irritating thing in Linux distros and sometimes the graphical sound manager does not work when shutting it up.
Fortunately there is a simple way to do it in terminal. In Ubuntu (and distros based upon it) type:
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

I was answering a question and I wanted to add a direct link to a package using the apt: format but the askubuntu told me the link is invalid. Is there a way to add this kind of link to an askubuntu question?
Using Geany in Fedora 18 (GNOME), when I create a text file and save it, the "Type" shown in Files is "Binary," and when I go back and open the file with either Geany of Gedit, I can't read the contents.
If I use Geany to edit an existing text file, then save it, there's no problem.
Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Geany comes with a few plugins installed by default, however there are many other useful plugins maintained by community.
Namely that after installing Ubuntu 12.04 and going to log in, I am met with a frozen slate of a desktop in which nothing loads (at longest I've sat for 30 minutes, reading, whilst nothing changes) and only the mouse moves.
Its not a blank screen, its the desktop that one is normally greeted with, just with nothing loaded.
