So I currently am running Windows 7 and would like to be able to have the option of selecting either Windows 7 or Ubuntu 12.04 when I boot up my PC. My hard drive came partitioned with C: as my "OS" drive and also D: as "data" which I have nothing on (240 GB wasted). I would like to take my D: drive and use that for the Ubuntu 12.04 install.
I am new to Ubuntu and I just got the LiveCD thingy to try it out on my laptop. I like it, so I decided to install it alongside Windows. But, I don't want to partition my hard drive that I have Windows on, so I got an external 250 GB USB hard drive to install ubuntu on.
I am planning on installing Ubuntu 12 on top of Windows 7 as a dual-bootable system. I have completely emptied the E:// drive, equaling to almost 80 GB of free space. I want to install Ubuntu on this drive (thus leaving only the C:// and F:// drives for Windows).
I installed Ubuntu today for the first time on a Dell desktop running Windows XP sp3.
I opted to install on a second hard drive, following these instructions:
http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/07/23/dual-boot-ubuntu-12-04-and-windows-...
When I reboot my computer, and enter the boot sequence menu in BIOS, there isn't even an entry for my second hard drive.
I've been trying to help a friend reinstall Windows XP after she decided she wasn't ready for Ubuntu, but when I boot her Lenovo T61p from the Windows XP install disk, it complains that there is no hard drive. But the hard drive is fine, and will still boot Ubuntu.
Hi,
I recently purchased a new hard drive for my system, I will give you a quick explanation of that
sda - Old 1TB drive, MBR, houses my Windows 7 install
sdb - New 2TB drive, GPT houses Ubuntu 12.10
Ubuntu installs to my new drive no problem, but I can't boot into Windows, I get a "EFI File Path not valid".
Ok so heres what i want to do i have a amd laptop with two hard drives 1 is 500gb the other is 250gb, I want to install ubuntu on the 250gb drive currently the drive is empty the 500gb drive is my windows 7 main i dont want it touched in the installation now ive read other threads about dual booting 2 drives but they dont give clear answers for me to take the risk.
I've had Ubuntu as the sole OS on my desktop for a couple years. Updated it to Precise soon after it came out. Today I decided to try dual booting to Windows 8. I bought a new, separate hard drive (SATA) to install Windows on. My Ubuntu installation is on my older PATA disk.
I disconnected the Ubuntu drive completely when installing Windows.
I am trying to install ubuntu on a pc already running windows7 os. I have got 3 volumes on my hard disk. 1st C drive is where windows is installed, second drive A is where I want to install ubuntu and 3rd is used for backup.
When I run installation from my USB it gives my options 1.
