http://ubuntuforums.org – After several tries I was finally able to install 12.04 on my two computers - an AMD 64-bit machine with nVidia GE Force 6150 graphics chip and another AMD 64-bit machine with and ATI graphics chip. Neither will run with custom graphics drivers, but that's not a show-stopper for me. When this happens I run the nouveau driver (assuming that's the default). I usually set the gamma value at startup by having the following command inserted as a startup application: /usr/bin/xgamma -gamma 0.7 This has always worked, but now it doesn't! It appears to use the setting for the log-in screen, but (Hardware)

In Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal), there is no additional drivers section in system settings, in fact, it has moved to a new tab in software sources.

I have tried creating the startup command "xgamma -gamma .8". This works for about .3 seconds whenever I login, but it immediately reverts back to 1.0, even though the command "xgamma" tells me that all of my gamma values are .8.

One way to change the brightness, contrast and gamma settings is to install the nvidia drivers and then use nvidia-settings to change them.

Is it possible to do that somehow with nouveau drivers installed?

I have a HP DV6000 laptop with nvidia 6150 chip. The gnome color app (in gnome settings) displays the Device but I cannot calibrate it, the button is inactive.

Good time of day, everyone! I'm facing this problem with my Ubuntu 12.04.1 and a new ViewSonic monitor. The trouble is that the monitor has it's default gamma value set too high and there is no way I can adjust it by monitor controls. So far I've been using the Code: xgamma -gamma .7 command to get a comfortable picture.

I have been trying to set up an old machine which has a NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX NV18 graphics card. Unfortunately I didn't find any working graphics driver. Using the open source nouveau driver resulted in heavy flickering, general distortion, and a black bar on top of the screen.

I have and HP Pavilion dv6000 running Ubuntu 12.04 with Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics chip. Each time I try to upgrade my driver for the graphics card it fails at installation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have installed ubuntu 12.04 with xfce environment on this toshiba l300 with intel mobile 4 integrated graphics.

with windows and without drivers, the fan is always on and the video performance is poor.

The next version of Linux is not only the first to offer the Nouveau KMS graphics driver for NVIDIA graphics hardware, it also comes with a multitude of improvements for the two AMD/ATI and Intel graphics drivers which support Kernel-based Mode Setting (KMS)...

i have an nvidia graphics card in my laptop and i am currently using ubuntu 12.04 off a portable 8GB usb with 4GB Persistence, and i noticed the screen flickers a lot, im assuming this is due to having no graphics driver, so what i am asking is, because i use this USB on arounf 4-5 different computers and encounting, is it possible to stop this annoying flickering by installing a graphic driver, b
