I have tried two ways for sharing a folder on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit so that I could access it on a Windows XP PC on the same switch:
1st: right-clicking the folder > properties > share > Share this folder and checking both "Allow others to create and delete files in this folder" and "Guest access (for people without a user account)"
2nd: adding the folder to Samba
So I have ubuntu 11.10 desktop 64bit installed.
Once I boot in i browse to a folder (on a mdadm array) i want to share on the network (to other windows and linux machines)
i right click the folder and go to file sharing and select Share this folder, and alow others etc and allow guest
and it works perfect, until I reboot and it loses all the settings.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Hi
I'm trying to figure out the simplest method to share files back and forth from one Linux machine running Ubuntu or Fedora17/KDE (Dual boot) to another running Fedora13 /Gnome2. I don't care about MS Windows file sharing, just being able to access files in the public directory of either Linux machine.
I have moderate Linux experience/knowledge, but with some gaps...
I'm trying to install on a machine that has a CD drive but no DVD (and is currently running 10.3). Following the procedure here I created a filesystem on the server and copied the DVD iso to that. I boot with the network install CD and in the boot options I put in
I have 4 machines set up. 2 are running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 1 is running Windows 2003 server, and 1 is dual booting WinXP and Win7. 1 of the Ubuntu machines is configured to share out 2 disk volumes ("Data" and "DiskImages". My windows machines can see these shares. My other Ubuntu machine cannot.
Hey everybody,The KDE doesn't recognize samba as being installed. I can still browse SMB shares but cannot share folders/files myself. Under the "Share" tab properties of the folder I want to share a message exclaims: "Samba is not installed on your system.". I have samba and kdenetwork-filesharing installed.
Hi,
I am trying to create a SMB share in Ubuntu 10.04. I am right clicking on a folder, clicking 'Sharing Options', and then enabling the share.
Hi guysI installed gvfs-smb to access samba shares in Nautilus. Now there is an icon in the "Browse Network" section of Nautilus called "Windows Network". This link works sporadically. Sometimes I open it and no workgroups are present. Sometimes I'll see a workgroup but no shares are available.
I had a simple samba sharing setup between my 2 ubuntu computers (yea, i should use nfs, but whatever) I just did the basic nautilus right click and share, and everything was fine. But now i upgraded to quantal (and didnt change anything else), and it doesnt work anymore.
