Hi everyone, Running ubuntu 10.04 I set up personal file sharing by going to System->Preferences->Personal File Sharing and clicking enable. I then installed Samba, and installed apache and dnssd. I then right clicked on my folder i wanted to share selected Sharing Options and clicked share folder. It worked beautifully and after a reboot could access the folder from my other machine.
Quickly share files between any two computers on your network. Nitroshare is an application for Linux, Mac and Windows that makes local file sharing simple: just click and drag.
Hi
10.04 64bit, NFS Server, NFS Client - no samba and not wanted
I am using NFS to share across my network. One thing I can't solve is this, for example:
I share my /home folder.
This folder contains links to places outside /home, specifically drives mounted in /mnt.
How can I share /home but specify folders I do not want shared within /home?
I have installed 2008R2, and added the file Server Role.
Created a volume, and created a new share in that voluem (all from the File Server GUI)
When my users log to the \servername\ they do not see the share.
When I check the folder properties (right click) it says that the folder is not share)
My question:
What does File server manage if it can't set correctly the share options
This brief tutorial will show you how to easily enable file sharing between Windows XP and Fedora 14, codename Laughlin. When you enable file sharing between the two systems, both machines will be able to view and access shares from each other.
I know there are a lot of similar questions about file permissions on Git and sharing, but none seem to address my particular problem.
I've got a Ubuntu virtual machine, there is a Git repo that is shared via Samba so I can edit the files from my Windows dev machine.
My problem is when I do git checkout of git pull the file permissions get set so that the Samba guest user can't edit the files.
I'm currently using Samba to share files between my ubuntu PC and my mac. However, I notice that there is a 'Personal File Sharing' preference panel built into ubuntu. Is it possible to view my ubuntu Public folder from my mac using just what comes pre-installed on ubuntu, since every guide/tutorial/post I've found so far just tells me to use Samba?
So I have ubuntu 11.10 desktop 64bit installed.
Once I boot in i browse to a folder (on a mdadm array) i want to share on the network (to other windows and linux machines)
i right click the folder and go to file sharing and select Share this folder, and alow others etc and allow guest
and it works perfect, until I reboot and it loses all the settings.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
I have found file sharing to be broken on install since 10.04.
install ubuntu 10.0X on 2 machines on same network.
Try this on both machines:
open file browser.
right click on any folder.
choose "sharing options".
check "share this directory"
click "create share" button
you will be prompted to install file sharing.
