I want to use the open source Radeon driver for Ubuntu, but currently I'm using fglrx.
So, I went ahead and purged fglrx using sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx* and when I rebooted and ran sudo lshw -c video, I still see driver=fglrx_pci. I've followed the instructions here.
I'm not sure why I can't completely purge fglrx, is anyone else experiencing this?
Hello,
When installing my FGLRX-updates driver, I get the following errors and I have no idea what they mean.
No, its not a PowerXpress setup, just try to get the graphics work as mentioned in the installation guide. After the ati-driver way was not successfull I tried it with the https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fglrx.I installed the packages from the official repository. When I run aticonfig --initial then I get:Found fglrx primary device section
PowerXpress error: Cannot stat '/usr/lib/fglrx
I'm trying to install a proprietary driver from amd and it says that a version of fglrx is already installed and that i need to uninstall it first but when i try to invoke:
sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev* xorg-driver-fglrx
i get:
[sudo] password for tom: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree
Reading state information...
I'd like to know the version of fglrx installed in my Ubuntu 10.04.3 box.
My computer uses a Radeon HD 6950.
I have the ATI (AMD) HD7870 graphic card and I had just installed Ubuntu. With the Open Source drivers the desktop works fine; however, since I have a newer card, I'd like the proprietary drivers installed.
However, whenever I install it either from Additional Drivers, or from the AMD's website, I am able to log in, but then compiz immediately crashes and all I see is my desktop background.
