I am trying to setup up an HP Officejet G85xi printer through an Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive, so that the printer can be shared over the network without requiring that an attached computer be turned on to print. There is a place on the back of the Network Hard Drive to plug in the printer with USB.
Hopefully someone can give me some help. At my office, I run Ubuntu 10.04 on my computer. I am trying to connect to a printer over the network that is connected directly to a Windows XP machine. I have gone through all of the steps to install the printer. I have Samba. The printer is shared on the XP machine. I have the drivers.
I just wanted to share a solution I figured out that didn't quite match with the other help I found on line.
Ubuntu 10.4
I have bar code printer - Zebra.
I have the bar code file already in ZPL format and just want to send it to the printer.
This printer has its own static ip address.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 now, and decided to get my printer working so that I can print out a UPS shipping label. Normally I would send this to my wife, have her print it, and that would be it. But her hard drive failed, and I am waiting for a new one to arrive.
background.
I don't print often but have found myself with the need to print documents over the next few months. I have 2 computers one is my wife's which is running vista. Because I can't stand vista I am running duel boot ubuntu 9.10. and vista.
My Ubuntu laptop is connected to a Windows network that has four shared printers.
From the laptop I can print test pages, etc., with two of the printers. I cannot with the other two.
On another machine, a Windows machine, also connected to the network, I can print to all four of the shared printers. So I know that the printers are fine.
It has occurred to me that a workstation can connect to a printer in two ways:
1). Printing directly to the IP of the printer with the print driver installed locally.
2).
Hi, I am just a user trying to get CrunchBang to do all that I need. I am very happy for the most part. I have been migrating away from Windows XP because I lost the install disk. Hardware=eeepc 1000HE. OS=CrunchBang Statler, ran updates at first run, printer support, did not go with Zen. Sound works, wireless works. I know next to nothing about linux.I am trying to get my printer working.
Does Ubuntu have the proper drivers/software built into it to make all of the functions of a Canon multi-function printer/scanner/fax machine work ? No, I don't have the exact model at this time.
I know where the setup of prints, etc.
