Just a heads up for people with ndiswrapper problems (I crawled the Ubuntu forum and didn't really find this; the info was aggregated from several other sites.)
If you're using an older version of ndiswrapper, and you have the gui AND the program interface (and ndiswrapper even shows that the hardware is attached) but when you modprobe, you're getting this:
FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found
Hi,
After googling around, I followed some of the steps I'd seen in this forum to get the usb adapter working.

I have standard 11.10 that I upgraded, arch is i686
I downloaded ndiswrapper using the Ubuntu Software Center.
I could use some assistance to trying to get a Belkin N600 DB Wireless Dual-Band USB Adapter to work on a Dell Inspiron 1525 with 64-Bit Ubuntu 12.04. The device won't work out of the box. Tried to go the NDISWrapper route, but using the GUI, received the following message:
Module could not be loaded.
Hey everyone,
I just went out and bought a belkin N750 for ubuntu, I thought it might work, I heard all Ralink chips were built into ubuntu, but apparently not. So I got ndiswrapper and installed the XP drivers that came with install disk, and.....
After following the instructions I installed the proper drivers and ndiswrapper program, etc., a month ago.
But last night I updated to the latest distro and this broke my system: it can no longer detect my wireless USB adapter.
The blue light works but there's no connexion between the system and the USB adapter. I've tried several different workin USB ports to no avail.
and asks "is the ndiswrapper module installed?"...but it is.
I'm trying to get my wireless working, and
https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/intern...ss-ndiswrapper
lead me to
sudo lshw -C network
which said UNCLAIMED
so I installed the ndisgtk package.
found the drivers on the realtek site, used the ndisgtk, found the inf, and was given:
Module could not be loaded.
Hi, I've been using ndiswrapper and kmod-ndiswrapper since kernel-2.6 which have automatically been integrated in each kernel update.

I recently upgraded my ubuntu server from 10.04 to 12.04. I am trying to use my TL-WN723N V2 wireless USB Adapter. I have added rtl8192cu driver module to /etc/modules so that it can be loaded at boot time. But I am stuck at the basic issue (it seems).
