I need help with installing my brother printer model: MFC-J270W. I found all of the required Linux drivers for this printer from the Brother website, I just need guidance on how to install this via terminal. I tried on my own but failed. Any help is appreciated.
Hi,
I have a Brother MFC-8890DW, which is very economical in terms of supply. But since I got the printer to print the cups (with default installation, and driver provided by arch linux) is very slow, especially in PDFs and images. Investigating a bit, I found that the slowness is caused by the cups, in preparing the file to be sent to the printer.
I'm using Ubuntu 11.10, and when I upgraded to 11.10, somehow I lost the printer. I've read that this model is supported (Brother HL-2040), but it doesn't work, so I'm resorting to doing it the way I had to install it to my earlier version of Ubuntu.
I went to the Brother website and downloaded the cups driver and the Brother driver for my printer and installed them using apt-get install.
I upgraded to (= installed from scratch) openSUSE 11.3 / KDE 4.4 the other day, and while under the previous versions I never had problems with my printer, this time I get an alignment problem when printing out pages after reinstalling the driver (like this: )
What I did:
I've only been using Ubuntu for a few months now (12.04 LTS), and decided to try to install my printer.
This crunchbang system recognized my Brother MFC-8690DW Multi-Function (printer, scanner, copier, fax).So I installed the recommended printer driver and the printer started working immediately. For the scanner, the following was recommened for this 32-bit system:http://www.brother.com/cgi-bin/agreemen
nglish_lprAfter installing this deb package as root, I ran xsane as root and it worked. But
