[ubuntu] External Sata Drive issues (Ubuntu 10.10)

http://ubuntuforums.org – I currently am using Ubuntu 10.10 in a septa-boot arrangement (Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.10, Solaris, Mint, Backtrack 5 R1, Mac OS X 10.6, Suse) on a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5933. Today I connected a hard drive, via a USB-to-Sata cable, to my laptop to back up some files from my Laptop (I've done this countless times before with no issue). I moved the files over to the drive and everything looked fine. I played one of the MP3 files (a lecture I recorded from college) from the drive and after I closed VLC, the screen flashed. Odd but nothing seemed out of order. I opened the Hard Drive via Ubun (Hardware)

I had put a second Sata hard drive in my computer and was pleasantly surprised not to run into any problems. No BIOS changes, just start the partitioner, partition, mount, it worked.

Here's the background:

I have two hard drives, one (SATA) with XP on it and another (EIDE) with an NTFS partition and Ubuntu on an ext2 (I think, or ext3, I can never remember which one's right). I also have an external hard drive (EIDE) that's completely NTFS.

So, the problem is this: my cousin dropped her laptop (I think while it was on), and after that her Windows 7 installation wouldn't work. It got as far as the splash screen, and that was all.

Hi, I just made the switch from Windows to Ubuntu, so I'm still very confused on a lot of things. I backed up all of my files onto my SimpleDrive 500gb external hard drive, but now I can't figure out how to access it on Ubuntu. I've aleady plugged in the USB cable to my laptop, but it doesn't seem to be installing.

Had a spare 500GB Seagate Barracuda Sata II hard drive sitting around dying for something to do. So I popped it into my PC, switched the Sata wire and power cord from my Ubuntu (Samsung 620GB) hard drive to it.

Used my live CD's, all booted up, then decided to install each OS a number of times. Not one would reboot from the hard drive.

Hard drive not reading 35 weeks 6 days ago

I was working with XP Pro os and it chrashed. Moved to ubuntu 11.04 and moved the XP Pro hard drive to the ubuntu system. HD worked just fine. This HD was a boot drive for XP Pro.

Purchased Win 7 system moved the XP Pro hard drive to the Win 7 however, win 7 does not reconized the format on the hard drive and wants to reformat.

Have Ubuntu installed on a 1TB SATA 3 Hard Drive. Also have Windows 7 installed on a separate 1TB SATA 3 Hard Drive. Unplugged Windows Hard Drive before installing Ubuntu as previous versions of Linux always destroyed my Windows installation. What will happen when I plug in the Hard Drive with Windows 7?
