Hi I have a dell XPS L502 x laptop with Nvidia GT 540 m 2 GB graphic card. Initially I was having heat up issues with fan constantly running .
My media player runs Ubuntu 12.10 with video drivers Gallium 0.4 on AMD RV710, experience standard. The graphics card is reported (lshw) as a Radeon HD 4350. This card is driving two displays. The first is a 17" Dell 4:3 monitor via DVI at around 800:600 pixels. This houses the Launcher and a few screenlets and always remains on. It is the only screen I have on at boot.
First post, sorry lack of correctness in the format.
I have a Dell XPS L502, they bring 1 HDMI port.
My external monitor doesn't receive any kind of signals.
What can I do?
Thanks
12.04, not an upgrade from previous versions, Intel Integrated HD graphics. System updates done daily.
The dual monitor capability sort of works, but there are some problems ...
- It only works at all as an extended desktop. I would like to be able to switch from laptop display to external display with the desktop the same in both.
I have a laptop with Intel Sandybridge/HD3000 graphics.
Under Windows, the hardware is capable of supporting two displays (laptop display plus external monitor).
Under XUbuntu/XFCE, I can choose laptop display or the external monitor, but cannot enable dual-displays. There is no option for extended display.
I have 2 monitors, both are Dell UltraSharp U2312HM. I was previously using both as an extended desktop in Windows 7, and it was working great. Well, except the windows part... but that's another story.
I am running kubuntu 13.04 64-bit, and my secondary monitor is not working at all. It is "on" but only black.
I have had 3 ATI radeon cards now & always had display flicker with Ubuntu.
I mostly use windows 7 and have to use Linux for my open source work (not gaming).
I used to get round the problem by using Ubuntu in a virtual machine, but would like to use it native.
I have just bought a new graphics card (XFX HD 6450) on Dell U2412M & once again display flicker (graphics signal NOT monitor)

1. I am a ubuntu precise pangolin user. However, I am expermenting with kubuntu. Under ubuntu I have enabled acl's and extended attributes on my ext3 Data disk partition. I did this by editing /etc/fstab and putting in the options for acl's and extended attributes.
I have a Dell Precision M6500 laptop with 2 x 24" dell monitors connected via a docking station.
