I am living in China currently and i have to use a pppoe connection to connect to the internet. My problem occurs when i normally connect to the internet using the:
sudo pon dsl-provider
This connects me for around 25 seconds to the internet and than just hangs up and stops the connection. Does anyone know why this occurs?
Hello all, my name is John and I am currently living in china but I'm from Virginia, I have just installed Ubuntu on my HP laptop and I am having a problem with the internet connection. At work there is a wireless connection that the computer will connect to with no problem but at home i have a Modem/Wireless route unit I'm guessing that's called a mini PPPOE?
After Starting the system, first- time connection of internet works/access the net-works(updating, browsing, etc.).but if, internet is disconnected, manually by me or automatically by any reason.

I have come to this place because i cant get my pppoe on ubuntu 12.10 to work an am pretty new to this so please bear with me.
with sudo pppoeconf i get the following message:
"Sorry I scanned 1 interface, but the Access Concentrator of your provider did not respond.Please check your network and modem cables.Another reason for the scan failure may also be another running pppoe process
Hi,I have ADSL Modem Huawei SmartAX MT882 which has Ethernet as well as USB cable to connect internet. For so long I have been using this Modem using Ethernet cable.
I'm now use Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop edition and i have Prolink H9601 ADSL USB modem....
It's not detect Ubuntu........so i can't access internet and i have to go to internet cafes..:(

Need some information on how to setup the router.
I don't know if it is a standard way, but below is how my ISP provides Internet access.
I have a LAN cable coming in and the LAN connection is configured as follows -
IP - 169.254.xx.xx
subnet - 255.255.0.0
gateway - 192.168.0.1
DNS - some IPs
And then there is a PPPoE connection that uses a username and password and (probably) get
