Friends,I have a Dell Vostro 3550 laptop which cam preinstalled with Ubuntu 10.10 and has the following configuration:CPU: Core i5 2nd Gen
GPU: ATI Radeon 6630
at the time it first shipped the desktop screen and mouse flickered and there were no desktop effects and I didn't like it, so I did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04.
With 11.04 though the desktop effects came but the Desktop screen and the
I just upgraded from 8.04 Ubuntu to 10.04. The mouse cursor works fine during login. As soon as the system switches to the desktop, the arrow cursor "image" disappears (remains working ..you just can't see it). The OS will also randomly shut down requiring a re boot.
I've seen my mouse exhibit the most strangest behavior. It seems to be drawn to move, on it's own, without any action on my part, to the lower left hand corner of my screen. At first I thought it was just happening in Firefox but today I noticed it also happens when I'm viewing the desktop. I have to play this game of tug of war with the mouse cursor to regain control of it for awhile.
I have a new installation of 12.04 on a new desktop PC. According to Update Manager, it's all up-to-date.
Very reliably, the desktop will lockup whenever it tries to play a sound effect. I can open up Terminal, then press Tab once (which usually causes a system beep), and the desktop is now locked up.
I try to install Ubuntu in a VirtualBox (in Windows). It works perfectly. After that, I try to install on the physical machine. When setup ask if I want to "try" or "install", if i choose "try", I get faced with a wallpaper and a mouse cursor but thats it. Nothing else happens after that. No desktop, no icons, nothing but the wallpaper and mouse cursor. If I install happens.

Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right place!

After a while of using my computer, the system will suddenly becoming unresponsive.
Hello folks,
I've recently had some troubles with a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.10. The installation goes smoothly, and the first restart yields a relatively stable environment (there is a Compiz error of some sort).
