Friends,I have a Dell Vostro 3550 laptop which cam preinstalled with Ubuntu 10.10 and has the following configuration:CPU: Core i5 2nd Gen
GPU: ATI Radeon 6630
at the time it first shipped the desktop screen and mouse flickered and there were no desktop effects and I didn't like it, so I did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04.
With 11.04 though the desktop effects came but the Desktop screen and the
I just upgraded from 8.04 Ubuntu to 10.04. The mouse cursor works fine during login. As soon as the system switches to the desktop, the arrow cursor "image" disappears (remains working ..you just can't see it). The OS will also randomly shut down requiring a re boot.
I've seen my mouse exhibit the most strangest behavior. It seems to be drawn to move, on it's own, without any action on my part, to the lower left hand corner of my screen. At first I thought it was just happening in Firefox but today I noticed it also happens when I'm viewing the desktop. I have to play this game of tug of war with the mouse cursor to regain control of it for awhile.
I try to install Ubuntu in a VirtualBox (in Windows). It works perfectly. After that, I try to install on the physical machine. When setup ask if I want to "try" or "install", if i choose "try", I get faced with a wallpaper and a mouse cursor but thats it. Nothing else happens after that. No desktop, no icons, nothing but the wallpaper and mouse cursor. If I install happens.
I logged out of my normal desktop and selected LX games from the dropdown list and logged back in. This led me to a black screen and now I can't see the login screen in order to change back to my normal desktop. On startup the machine boots normally, the lubuntu splash screen shows up, then it goes to a black screen with nothing on it - not even a mouse cursor.
