http://ubuntuforums.org – I'm tying to install dial up on Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit). I have managed to get wvdial installed and now I'm trying to configure it. I ran: sudo wvdialconf /ect/wvdial.conf and I got a few error messages. I was hoping to fix most of the errors by editing wvdial.conf adding my ISP, user name, password and such. When I tried to open wvdial.conf with gedit I get the error message: Could not open: You do not have permission Where do go now? TIA (Hardware)

Error message I got when I ran the command:

sudo apt-get install wvdial

I want to connect to the internet via a dialup modem which is a US Robotics v92 USB modem which worked with F15, and works with Windows. The computer is a new ASUS desktop CM6870 with i7-3770 @ 3.40 GHz 64 bit system. I think wvdial is working but Firefox, Kmail, and Thunderbird fail to connect to server, or report no host.

I just installed 10.04-amd64 on this computer and want to have dial-up internet automatically connect as soon as Ubuntu starts. This happened automatically on my previous 8.10 install once I had edited /etc/wvdial.conf . It doesn't do that now.

I've got a Trendnet TFM-560X external serial modem.

How can I get wvdial to run on bootup?

I'm trying to connect with an O2 dongle (UK) on Fedora 12. When I follow any of the various tutorials online using the network manager, the connection never appears in the network manager and so i can't connect. I have now tried using "sudo wvdial connection_name" after setting up /etc/wvdial.conf.

I was trying to install Arch Linux with 3g modem. Previously downloaded usb_modswitch and wvdial and their dependencies. Booted acrh and installed them. Then copied my ubuntu's /etc/wvdial.conf in arch. Then I connect with wvdial and it says connected, modem indicator also says connected. But it is actually not! ping www.google.com says unknown host!
