[ubuntu] Eclipse using 100% CPU and Ram on startup on Ubuntu 12.10 x64

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi, I use Eclipse IDE for development on my ubuntu 12.10 laptop. It is Dell Studio 1558 Processor: i3 128 GB SSD HDD 8GB RAM When i start my eclipse, i notice that all 4 core's go up 100% usage, fan kicks in. Looking at process monitor, it shows as "java".. using up over 1 gb of ram. I went and configured my eclipse.ini file also increasing xms and xmx values. But no luck at times eclipse freezes and CPU and memory usages go very high. Can someone help? TY (Hardware)

How do I configure what JVM Eclipse runs in?

I'm trying to switch it to use my installed java-6-sun so that I can use jstack to figure out why Eclipse is spinning endlessly in certain situations.

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04, and I'm using the pre-packaged Ubuntu Eclipse 3.7.2.

I run gnome shell 3.6 and Eclipse 4.2. I installed Eclipse manually, in my /opt directory, because the Ubuntu package for Eclipse is very outdated.

I've created a .desktop file for it, and placed in in ~/.local/share/applications.

I installed eclipse though the unbuntu software center but I experienced some issues and I wanted to install the official eclipse version.

I downloaded eclipse classic 4.2.1 http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/eclipse/downloads/dr...

Extracted it, but if I double click "eclipse" it doesn't do anything.

Any ideas how

I was tring to install eclipse on ubuntu. What I did: I unzipped the tar archive of eclipse. I tried to start eclipse from the command line - like this - ./eclipse. It works. But then I tried to create a desktop icon with: gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop --create-new. In a new icon I showed the path to the eclipse executable which I could launch from the command line.

I wanted to install eclipse-cdt for c++ development. But it looks like it cant be installed alone in ubuntu. Why are there separate packages if they can't be installed alone?

I've upgrade Fedora form version 11 to 12 by preUpgrade.

When I open Eclipse there is no option to make java project or C++ project. My previous java and C++ projects cannot be compiled because Eclipse doesn't see jdt and cdt packages.

I have F17. I had Eclipse, then I decided to make yum update, after what there was a problem with workplaces in Eclipse so I decided to reinstall it. I did yum remove eclipse, then it removed only eclipse-pde, though a very big file, approximately 300 Mb.
