hey, i am trying to dual boot my laptop so i can have ubuntu and windows 7 running alongside each other. i have deleted the 'hp_tools' partition in windows and shrunk the 'C:' partition so i had a partition to install ubuntu on, but when i go to install ubuntu, it says there is an extra partition that is 1mb in size, with a flag of system, and the drive i created is recognized as unusable data!
I'm dual booting W7 and Ubuntu (installed from Wubi). I've had it up and running a few times but today ,i have pressed power button multiple times while booting up and I'm getting a message from Windows Boot Manager when I select Ubuntu that wubildr.mbr is missing or corrupt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Group,
I'm a long time follower of Ubuntu and FOSS :D. After trying out Ubuntu (WUBI included), I'm finally ready to dual boot (need to keep windows for work related programs).
My hard drive has 2 partitions - C: (user files) & D: with Windows installed on D: (free space about 50 GB).

So, I got a friend to lend me his copy of Windows 8 Pro.
I wanted to set up Ubuntu on an external usb hard drive. So I did that. Got it all installed on the external drive with a boot CD, but it set it up as a dual boot on my computer.
I've had Ubuntu as the sole OS on my desktop for a couple years. Updated it to Precise soon after it came out. Today I decided to try dual booting to Windows 8. I bought a new, separate hard drive (SATA) to install Windows on. My Ubuntu installation is on my older PATA disk.
I disconnected the Ubuntu drive completely when installing Windows.
Hi, I have a strange problem with regards to the system time.
I am situated in Mumbai, India, which is +5.30 hours time zone (no daylight savings). I have windows xp installed on one hard drive and Ubuntu 12.10 installed on the other hard drive (installed each OS disconnecting the other hard drive; Use the boot menu using F12 to boot into each OS).
This is the second article on dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 on a computer with one hard disk. The first, how to dual-boot Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7, showed how to accomplish the task with GRUB 2, the boot loader used by Ubuntu, installed on the Master Boot Record (MBR) of the hard disk.
I have used ubuntu for almost 6 months full time at home while using windows for almost 6 years,so I previously used ubuntu on separate hard drive while I have one attached hard drive with partitions having NTFS file system so I used data from those partitions also. Now I want to again shift to ubuntu as I am a web developer and want to use ubuntu and I have a hp probook.
