I have a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop that I no longer use and I decided to turn it into a server. It is running Windows XP. Now, I had a flash drive that has Ubuntu 11.0 on it where I used it to install Ubuntu on another computer.
I started in with installing Ubuntu 12.10 on my desktop, as a Dual-Boot system next to XP.
When the installer asked, I replied that I wanted to retain XP, not replace it. It brought up the partition splitter, and from the total and available size, I could tell it was my USB harddrive.
I cancelled the install and unplugged the USB disk and restarted the install.
Sorry if I've missed something in my searches :-(
I've had a dual boot system for some time, with 12.04 on a SATA drive and WinXP on an IDE drive.
Greeings,
I've ran into an issue during the DVD upgrade of Fedora 16 to Fedora 17 on a dual boot, two drive, system.
Win7 is on sda and Fedora 16 is on sdb. Both drives boot from the MBR via the BIOS boot menu (F12). This keeps the Windows drive untouched.
When upgrading from the F17 DVD, I don't get the option to select to install the bootloader to the MBR on sdb.
So I just recently built a new computer and I have Windows 8 running on it, bios is set to UEFI, and Secure Boot is off. Windows 8 runs perfectly on it. Well with the new version of Ubuntu out, I thought I would give it a try in a dual boot on my new system. I have a separate hard drive just for Ubuntu, however I can't even get an installer to load to let me install it!
Hey folks,
I have an HP Ultrabook which was running Windows 7 and I wanted to dual boot it with Ubuntu. Everything was working fine until today, and I have no idea how I did it or how to fix it.
When I turn on the laptop, I now get a Windows Boot Manager screen and an error.
(Status 0xc000014c)
I'm not sure how to fix it thought Ubuntu (that's why I"m here).
okay, so i installed ubuntu on a desktop using a bootable USB, using this tutorial: http://lifehacker.com/5403100/dual+b...erfect-harmony
so as the tutorial explains, i created a seperate partition on my hard drive, then created the usb boot drive, and installed it from that. this is where i think I started to go 'off-piste'.
I was thinking, when I put in my Ubuntu cd, and boot off it, and go into the "Something else" section in the install window, my flash-drive is there when plugged in. I noticed it had one partition.
I have a laptop that I want to dual boot winxp and linux. I'd like to be able to run a mythtv frontend on it so that I can watch shows in my office and not lose the screen space on my regular desktop. I was thinking of three possible directions to go. I have a question to go with each though.
