So I currently am running Windows 7 and would like to be able to have the option of selecting either Windows 7 or Ubuntu 12.04 when I boot up my PC. My hard drive came partitioned with C: as my "OS" drive and also D: as "data" which I have nothing on (240 GB wasted). I would like to take my D: drive and use that for the Ubuntu 12.04 install.
I installed Ubuntu today for the first time on a Dell desktop running Windows XP sp3.
I opted to install on a second hard drive, following these instructions:
http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/07/23/dual-boot-ubuntu-12-04-and-windows-...
When I reboot my computer, and enter the boot sequence menu in BIOS, there isn't even an entry for my second hard drive.
I have a 1TB hard disk running windows 7 on my Dell Laptop. I partitioned it into two drives one having 900 GB and the other drive having 100 GB. I installed Ubuntu alongside windows 7 and ran it successfully. The dual boot also worked for the first two times but after that when I opened my Windows drive in ubuntu it showed no files.
I've just put together a new computer that I want to dual boot 12.10 and Windows 7. This machine has a Gigabyte 78LMT-S2P motherboard, AMD video onboard, AMD CPU. My HDD is 500GB, so I'm not lacking for space.
I am using Windows 7 professional 64 bit and Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit.
This is my first use of EFI, but I have installed many dual boot systems.
Hi guys, i have at the moment a dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.04 each one in separate hard drives, when i installed Ubuntu it taked care of the dual boot system letting me choose wich OS to run when turned on.
I have a Windows 7 computer. This is what I did:
Using Windows Disk Management, shrunk the available hard drive producing a partition more than large enough for Ubuntu.
Changed the boot order in BIOS to CD, USB, HDD.
Inserted Ubunto 12.04 disk, launched Ubuntu.
Chose "Install alongside windows 7".
Successfully installed Ubuntu, restarted, and it goes straight to Ubuntu.
I searched for an answer, but was unable to find...
1. I have little knowledge of Ubuntu, I am using 12.10 (I tried Ubuntu several years ago).
2. I built a computer, ufei bios, multiple hard drives, SSD and two sata 6. Windows 7 is on the SSD, (drive C:), Ubuntu is on a sata 6 (drive F:).
So I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTE 64-bit using the DVD. I followed LinuxBSDos guide for dual booting Windows 7 (first installed) and Ubuntu 12.04 (second install) on 2 Separate Hard drives.
I had Windows 7 Pro installed on /dev/sda1.
I just bought an Asus K55N and I want to dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 x64 with the factory installed Windows 7. I used the live-cd. It partitioned the hard drive for me, but when I restart it goes straight to Window7. When I look in the bios, it gives me the option to boot from dvd or Windows loader. I have been running Ubuntu for years now and have installed a dual boot on several machines.
