I want to install xfce desktop.
I am trying to install the build-essential package per the instructions located here:

I get this error when I use the command apt-get install build-essential:

i am a new Ubuntue user since one month, and I have to say that I really like much more than the system I was using before!!, much easier, and colourfull..
Iḿ trying my best for do the upgrades but allways become this message:

In Fedora 17... Can't Eject Disc After unmount?
Sequence...
Insert cdrom disc
Mount it
# mkdir -p /media/dvdrom
# mount /dev/cdrom /media/dvdrom
<Do something, Copy Files, Whatever...>
Unmount it
# umount /media/dvdrom
Press Eject Button, Nothing Happens?
What now? Kind of weird issue, someone has to have experienced this?

I need to use ubuntu for a class project but don't want to have it installed on my computer. I was told I could burn it to a disc and run it from there. How do I do that?
I put the windows installer on the disc already but when I go to download ubuntu from that program, it asks me to make a password and user name and the only option it gives for location is my C:\ drive.
