http://ubuntuforums.org – I will soon be purchasing a new laptop & currently the Dell Inspiron 17 is my favourite. I have been looking around for compatibility issues and it seems to be fine. The only thing I can't find for definite is support for the 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330. I am aware that ATI have had bad support in the past for Linux but I am also aware that this support has improved over the last year or two. I have confirmed that the Intel® GMA X4500HD option works fine. Also what has happened to the option of having the Dell pre installed with Ubuntu? I have been told that it should be in the personilise menu under operating system but the only choice I can find is Windows. Do Dell no longer provide this option as that would solve the issue immediately. (Hardware)

First of all, I am not a geek and I am totally new to Linux. I want to try Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on my Dell Inspiron 15R laptop. So I want to know whether the hardware of the laptop is compatible with Ubuntu and they'll just work with Ubuntu as fine as they work with Windows 7. Following are my hardware specs as I found. I am considering buying one of the laptops Dell is offering for sale with Ubuntu pre installed.

I currently use Ubuntu on a Macbook Pro that belongs to my work, which will have to go back to my work soon as I am changing jobs!
