My Compaq Presario 2100 will not shutdown, restart, suspend, or hibernate correctly. When I attempt a shutdown or restart, it hangs with a message to the effect of Shutting Down Now, but it never powers off.
I would like to be able to log these messages and present them on this web site for help, but I know of no way to log shutdown messages.
Hi,
I'm using Mythbuntu 12.04 (although I had the same issue with 11.10 which is why I did a fresh install of 12.04 with db export/import). I have set it up with mythwelcome to shutdown when idle and start up for recordings according to:
http://http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/ACPI_Wakeup
For the most part it all works well. However, occassionally the system hangs when shutting down.
Sometimes(rather many times), when I shutdown using the menu option >> Shutdown, the system hangs at a Purple screen with dots. I have waited for 10 mins, but then it becomes clear that i need to do a hard shutdown using power button.
I am using Ubuntu 64 bit AMD edition(12.04.1 LTS) on HP Proliant Microserver(N40L) with OEM hardware.
I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 using Wubi, the installation went correctly and everything was working fine until i tried to shutdown. I clicked shutdown and then ubuntu started shutdown but as soon as i saw the Ubuntu logo with blank dots under, it froze and forced he having a hard shutdown.
With 11.2 and Gnome occasionally it will not shutdown properly. I press the shutdown button and then Gnome starts the shutdown sequence. It terminates the desktop and falls back to GDM, which in it self is normal. However it then just stops, I can't click anything and the system is not responding either. When I press the physical button on my PC I get the menu of shutdown again.
After a clean install of 11.2 KDE my system shuts down quite quickly.
Then after updates and a few installations (Nvidia drivers, Thunderbird and Skype), the shutdown time becomes much longer.
Can anyone help me with where to find any shutdown logs or other ideas on how to get my fast shutdown back?
-------------------------
As the title says: when I click Shutdown from the menu it logs off. When I click shutdown from the log-in menu it does nothing. I'm using a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10. I can force it to shutdown by the command below, but I don't want to keep typing that whenever I want to shutdown my laptop.
sudo shutdown -h now
So it's probably processes which arn't closing.
I searched and found that there are shutdown animations too usually present in system/media/video/shutdown or system/customize
i tried to search it on X8 roms but could not find them so wanted to ask
Does X8 support shutdown animations? If yes them what is the method to change the shutdown animation
My Ubuntu 12.04 can't shutdown correctly. It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen quite frequently. Is there any way to find out what modules (or anything) stops the shutdown process?
I tried the method posted here:
cannot shutdown my sony vaio on Ubuntu 12.04
But it doesn't fix the problem.
