[ubuntu] Create a shortcut to run a program as another user

http://ubuntuforums.org – I've set up another user colin.pidgin and I've started up Pidgin and configured it under this user. My issue is... without sudoing into this user ( sudo su -d /bin/bash colin.pidgin ) How do I actually start Pidgin under this user? I want to be able to click a button on the Unity panel and have this happen. Anyone have an idea? (Hardware)

I recently installed Pidgin and tried to install pidgin-facebookchat. Ubuntu software center now says that pidgin is corrupt so I press repair but nothing gets fixed. I've tried sudo apt-get purge pidgin but I get this error:

I have Pidgin 2.10.3 (libpurple 2.10.6) and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

When I want to start Pidgin the icon appears in Unity but not the window, to open the Pidgin window I have to click "quit" in laucher and start it again, only after trying 2 times I can open the Pidgin window, (Buddy List).

Thanks in advance! I am a new user of Ubuntu and I realized that I might have installed a broken pidgin.

Pidgin is a nice chatting client that is pre-installed in a lot of Linux distributions. Pidgin supports many chat platforms like yahoo, facebook, irc, AIM ... but unfortunately, the popular social network Twitter is not on this list.

However, with the help of a plugin called pidgin-microblog, you can update and check twitter and some other social networks like Identi.ca, Status.net ..

Is there a way that when you click an IRC url (such as irc://##linux) that it will open Pidgin? I believe it has something to do with gconf-editor, but I do not know the terminal command to start an IRC chat in Pidgin.

I am using Linux Mint, if that matters.
